good news: the whole battery pack can be recycled by tossing it into absolute zero tank where it will disintegrate into component elements floating at various depths due to buoyancy differences.

bad news: entirely un-serviceable by anyone.

the foam is for securing everything in place, not water protection. the aluminum and steel outer housing protects from the environment. apparently mechanical fasteners are for chumps and glue is way more reliable. it will be interesting to see how they are cooling the cells.
Yay, assemble "cutting-edge" BEV battery packs like they do with iPads and lots of glue.

Cybertruck body, apparently:

I'm still nervous about:

1. Bulletproof windows, in the case of a freak accident
2. All-metal stamped body in case of an accident or fender-bender
3. Lack of a round steering wheel...I tend to drive with my hand on top of the center of the wheel & my elbow on the windshield corner on the door

My only worry is lack of a normal steering wheel. My wife said she would leave me if I got a car without a normal steering wheel. I laughed when she said it, but she wasn't joking.

That video has me convinced that if the cyber truck ever makes it out of the factory that it will never go off pavement and never be used as a truck, being destined to be a bling thing. The reviewer's comment about the EV truck landscape being completely different now is spot on. The only use case I can come up with for the cyber truck is looking cool. I think it will still sell like hotcakes but there ain't no way it's going to come in at $50-60K.

This truck will really catch on if they use it in the next James Bond or Fast and Furious movie. Tesla's gonna get swamped with orders if that happens.

They already have 1.5 million pre-orders:

I will probably get mine by 2029 lol

Do the pre-orders really mean anything when the customer only had to put down $100?

It's to reserve your place in line. Which doesn't really happen anyway because Tesla's M.O. is to come out with the most expensive one first (like the quad-motor super Cybertruck) & then offer that to anyone who will take it lol. Plus, in comparison, Ford builds about a million F-150's per year, so 1.5 million pre-orders isn't really a lot.

With lithium prices & supply chain prices how they are today, I don't think it's possible for them to hit a $39k Cybertruck. I think it's going to be closer to $70k. Maybe $60k for a stripped barebones model. I think the big dog will be $90k to $100k+ depending on options, especially if you get the electric ATV with it.

What I do like about it is that it's stainless steel. So maybe it's going to last longer. But I'm not sure if there is still a lot of mild steel used in the rest of the truck like the frame etc. I was looking at a F150 Lightning review and the bottom of it is also really weird, lot of nooks and crannies that salt grime could get caught in, seems to me that will be a big problem. I could not justify paying 70k+ for something that will not outlast me. paid 14k for my gas one (used). If there comes a point where used EVs become more available then maybe I'll go that route... but only if we get better right to repair laws. Too many horror stories of battery packs having to be completely replaced for like 30k. That's more than I've ever paid for any vehicle.

Realistically I think I will stick to gas for main vehicle and just go electric for everything else. I'm practically already there. Chainsaw, lawnmower etc. They even have electric snowblowers now but not ready to drop 2 grand on that, I think I will try to convert my gas one instead, once my garage is done and I actually have room to work in there.

Man that thing is ugly. Not sure what the designers were going for. Tesla could have made a killing on a mid sized SUV (Honda CRV class).

The rumor mill says that Tesla has 1.5 million pre orders for the Cybertruck. If true, the killing will happen.
