The whole reason I pre-ordered was specifically for the 500-mile battery. 320 miles for $80k to $100k...and they sell a DLC range-extender that eats up your trunk space, but gives you 470 miles. Basically a mini Tesla Powerwall lol:

Still no Cyber-quad! Although...

I had to check to make sure this wasn't an Onion article lol:

Any predictions on deliveries for 2024? I am going with around 40k-60k for 2024.
i thought the official line was they wouldnt hit volume output until 2025, and given their track record i would lean late 2025.

sandy munro podcast some months back indicated tesla had to abandon doing a "true exoskeleton" and would fallback to a unibody design. going to plan B as far as tooling and ramping to serial production is probably a year+ to get up to speed.

The last thing America needs is people driving more big, heavy vehicles with ridiculous acceleration.
Seriously. I understand there's a range of different opinions when it comes to cars, but wanting a 4-ton tank to accelerate as well as fast sports cars is really bizarre. And borderline unethical considering pedestrians and other motorists will be at increased risk.

I think it's far too early to predict whether CyberTruck will succeed or fail, but this launch sure smells like a big fail.

Apparently you have to buy an optional battery pack that goes in the bed for the 500mi range.

Cost of pack so far undisclosed lol.

470 miles & it eats up your trunk. Wonder what happens if you get in an accident...does it just slide into the cab & break your back due to the weight? I have so many questions lol

Ford should put out a fake news release announcing a battery trailer you can hitch to the Lightening to extend it's range.

I would think it would be bolted in like if you had one of those heavy duty truck toolboxes taking up part of your bed or one of those transfer fuel tanks that sits in the bed.

While I can't think of a rational counterpoint, it sure is fun.

Wow what a great video. I know Hagerty and Jason Cammisa always do a great job but this one hit it out of the park. I don't follow the CT that closely so there were a lot of things I had no idea about.
The 48v system, drive by wire, the stainless steal alloy developed in house, the battery developed and manufactured in house, the motors developed and manufactured in house and so much more.

This video just might have changed my opinion of the CT because the engineering behind it is really impressive.

He said it best at 25:40 mark.
I approached the Cybertruck thinking it was a gimmick a bad joke. Just like everyone else on the internet I saw the finger prints and I saw misaligned body panels but what I didn't know was that there was so much substance behind this shape.

Actually, the shape is irrelevant but the sad part is you've already made up your mind about the Cybertruck based on the way it looks. So did I so did everyone else but that's not fair to this thing. It's an insult to judge it by how it looks.

No official price, but someone found this in the website source code:

So you could either buy a brand-new Kia Rio OR get an extra 150 miles plugged into your Cybertruck bed lol

At least half of a cars appeal is the looks. This is a bizarre take IMO.

MKBHD's review:

Takeaways:

* Zero to 60 in 2.7 seconds for $100,000
* 5% smaller than the original plan
* Ice katana is factory stock. It looks HILARIOUS in motion. Doesn't get the whole windshield haha.
* Side mirrors are removable (required by law to be shipped) & has cameras & BLIS
* Comes with the unique plastic hubcaps; tires aren't as meaty-looking as the show truck
* Has panel gap issues
* No Tesla logos

* Full six-foot bed
* Dampened-opened tailgate (not powered)
* Powered tonneau cover supports up to 300 pounds on top of it
* There is a rear window, but no opening. It's covered by the tonneau cover when closed.
* Spray-lined bed with lights & latchpoint system
* Small sub-trunk in bed
* No spare tire by default

* New 800V architecture
* Compatible with faster-charging SuperCharger V4 stalls
* 48V low-voltage system
* (2) 120V & (1) 240V outlets in bed
* 11 kilowatts out of charge port & 9.6 kilowatts out of 240V charge port

* No door handles
* Indented button pops it out a couple inches, then you grab it to open.
* Full 90 degrees when open.
* The motorized door opening system can break through one inch of ice (supposedly)
* The natural motion way to open the door is lower on the side of the door, which picks up fingerprints heavily
* Shallow front trunk
* Motorized front trunk
* Can't see the front of the car, so it's hard to judge where the nose is

* Front camera (first time ever available on a Tesla)
* Center console has a 120V outlet & a 65w USB-C charging outlet
* Touch light for LED overnight light
* Ambient RGB customizable lights throughout the interior
* No rearview mirror because the tonneau cover covers the rear window when closed, so it uses an always-on camera instead (requires mental habit remapping to glance at screen)
* Quiet ride with laminated windows (shatterproof...plus a bulletproof-ish body)
* World's largest windshield

* Gearshift is touch buttons...above your head. Wild.
* Glovebox is a slide-out drawer. Still no physical button.
* Heated & cooled front seats
* Rear heated seats (not middle, only left & right)
* Rear seats flip up for extra room

* Yolk-wheel hybrid steering wheel with some steering feel (not totally numb like most Tesla EV's)
* Max turn is less than 180 degrees (less than half a turn for your entire turning radius, REALLY nice feature!)
* He says that the steering is going to be one of the biggest adjustments for people, as the entire steering is in less than one turn
* Two levels (!) of heating in the steering wheel
* No stalks (no blinker, no turn signals)
* Buttons are now haptic (actually clicks & moves)
* Real horn
* Steer by wire
* Rear-axle steering (up to 10 degrees in the opposite direction of the front wheels at under 40 MPH for sharper turns in places like parking lots)
* At higher speeds, it changes 1 to 2 degrees in the same direction as the front wheels)

* Rear screen in back
* 18.5" center touchscreen
* New GUI with 3D spinnable truck

* 12" of suspension travel for ride height adjustment
* Max 17" of clearance in off-road mode
* "Extract mode" adds another 80mm
