Quite a few house fires courtesy of internal combustion engine vehicles also... Maybe it's also not a good idea storing gallons of fuel in a device that also explodes said fuel in or near a flammable structure in the presence of oxygen?
Leaking oil means old car because gaskets fail. You did read the first recall right? Actually, you did but did not internalize any of the relevant facts presented. Oil onto exhaust manifold=fire. But your conclusion is "gas tank fire".

The second...well, Bimmer's being full corporate garbage by simply not investigating. But because THE ENGINE WAS OFF, the more probable pathway is wiring/electrical. Once again, that's not the gas system igniting.

Because
Action of
"oil onto Manifold"
is not even relevant to
gallons of gas stored in the back.

Nor is action of
"electrical fault like a short" somewhere
relevant to the gas tank, initially. Might have made the fire sustain itself in addition to the plastics in the car, but it wasn't the root case.

Bimmers blowing up could negligent wiring issue, which also can be

What I don't expect is "new" or just broken in car to

So for cross examination,
1. do you think new gas ICEs are giant fire hazards? and
2. smoke dectector are inadequate for garage parked gas ICE's?
3. Said smoke detector codes have been that deficient for decades?

The CyberTruck reminds me of the old Simpsons episode where Homer designed a car.
I imagine a scenario where Elon Musk is told Tesla needs to bring an electric truck to production to meet growing competition during a company lunch meeting. He grabs a napkin and in 15 seconds draws the Cybertruck. He hands it over to the team and says "Create this. Bring this truck into production."

The design team takes on his literal words/drawing to task. Elon, knowing how silly it is, keeps his enjoyment/amusement to himself. He watches as the world buys into the ridiculousness of it all.

"I followed the napkin" as an 18" stone henge descends onto the stage...

I have a feeling that the design won't be as popular as he thinks, especially as Tesla has lost any first-to-market positioning they could have had in pickup trucks.

The Rivian has great aesthetics
The Silverado looks great too
The RAM has a 500-mile battery
The Hummer has crab-walk

The current Cybertruck prototype that was seen this week reduced the design aesthetics. Unless they come out with like, a quad-motor design with 4-wheel steering & a 620-mile battery option, I dunno what's going to really set the Cybertruck apart at this point. The Supercharger network is nice, but 80% of EV owners charge at home. I'm still holding onto my reservation, hoping they do some awesome stuff with it!

Your taste in cars is too good. You gotta like the weird stuff to appreciate it, haha! Although cards on the table, this was my initial take on it back in 2019 before the Stockholm Syndrome set in:

My complaint today is the stubby nose. Plus all of the weird little modifications, like those rim covers that cover too much of the tire haha:

It's like a K-mart KIRF of the original lol:

Looks like engineers got hold of the design. How many inches clearance did it shed and how many degrees of approach angle were lost to add some semblance of aerodynamics to the thing?

Now that I have non Tesla EVs in my household I appreciate the Supercharger network even more. Particularly with the Rivian, charging on road trips is painful. It’s one thing in a car if you’re getting 150kw and that’s ~600 mph, but in the Rivian that’s ~300mph. And it tapers hard, by 80% it’s a trickle.

If Cybertruck battery scales like their car batteries do and can max out a 350kw charger that’s going to be a huge advantage in charge time.

Don’t get me wrong I love my Rivian, but compared to long distance travel in a Model 3/Y it’s brutal. I hit a V3 Supercharger last weekend in our Y, saw 240kw on a battery slightly more than half the size of the Rivian. From 20% SoC, with no preconditioning. Ridiculous.

If the stainless exoskeleton means it stays structurally sound for longer years in service in the snow belt with salted roads, there's that. Around here, rust is what sends a lot of pickups to the grave. Some will undercoat religiously but most ppl don't.

I'd take a pickup with a 200 mi. range and 30 years rust resistance, over one with 600 mi range and 20 years RR... even adjusting for lower range when towing, I don't need to haul that much, that far.

At the same time, Cybertruck is more quirky than utilitarian. I'd rather an all stainless F150, including the relevant fasteners! It would have a larger owner base, larger aftermarket parts support down the road.

It's crazy all the math gymnastics we have to go through to explain that vs. under 3 minutes to refill a gas tank anywhere in America lol. EV's are still in the "early adopter" phase imo.

Curious to see how battery technology progresses over the next 10 years...weird but amazing things always seem to happen when you throw enough money & eyes on a problem!!

Oh deal god. That looks horribad. Your dog or cat will insist on sitting on the dash and you got room for a St. Bernard on that dash.

I will wait to see it in person, before I make my final judgement. I'm just glad that they got rid of the yoke.

This thing is an absolute cost cutting machine! Capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel and no stalks or physical controls of any kind … Tesla hates their customers.

Just wondering how many times and at what cost you'd have to replace the batteries in 30 years and if it would just make more sense to buy a new one a lot earlier.

^ It wouldn't be my daily driver, so probably one replacement battery. I only use a pickup to haul things. I do, do that fairly often but not daily. This allows me to get that long out of a vehicle before other wear items put it in the grave... if rust doesn't put it down first.

Interior shot, and I might be able to live with it:+

No front bench seat is a major bummer for me. I was hoping to be able to fit 6 people in it! People think it's for safety purposes:

Who designed the interior of the Cybertruck? One of the old Yugo designers who is now blind? Just said slap a cheap costco tv in the middle.

that is the shittiest looking interior I have ever seen for any car that costs like 20K or more in my life.

Who designed the interior of the Cybertruck?
Thoughts on this & in general:

1. I don't hate the updated steering wheel. I'm not too keen on their current yoke, but this has a bar on top, because that's where I like to rest my hand with my elbow on the window sill.

2. Not a fan of the center console. One of the big selling points for me was the bench seat & being a 6-seater. I'm really disappointed in this design decision.

3. Don't like the stubby nose on the updated design.

4. Hopefully the wheels come out looking cool & not lame.

5. Tesla interiors are pretty spartan, so I'm used to that concept. Dunno about the liner material there tho lol. At least it's anti-reflective?

6. I'm keeping my reservation. I won't buy one for at least 6 months after launch because they need to get the first-run bugs worked out & they do iterative development, so unlike other vehicle manufacturers, you don't have to wait a year for a refresh. I'm not 100% sold on it anymore due to many of the changes. Hummer EV has crab walk. RAM EV has 500-mile battery option. Price is going to play a factor at this point, as is the final aesthetic design & feature set. I'm in no rush!
