They look the same to me...

Granted nobody was buying Teslas for their style to begin with but at least the ones to date are just generic.

Compared to what other EVs were around, I actually think quite a few people did buy Teslas for the styling. I feel their design language prior to the Cybertruck was more clean than generic. The Cybertruck looks like some Eastern European making a Lamborghini truck in their garage.

With those tires (on typical Tesla wheels), if the styling was tweaked to fall more in line with Tesla's corporate design language (subtle curved/arc roofline, curvier shape to side glass, wheel arches better integrated, with nose and tail integrated design wise instead of just ending at points), I think it could actually work as a lifestyle pickup (aimed at the people buying Mavericks or Ridgelines before, that want some of the utility of a truck but not give up as much as truck does to offer it). Heck even at that shape, if they could lower it a bit more, cut out the rear seat section of the cab, it could even work as an electric El Camino.

i did a quick and dirty photoshop to see what happens when you get rid of the pointed hat.

the basic volume proportions are fine, but that triangle top makes it impossible to like. if they had gone with normal stamped body panels using their regular design esthetic on the 3/s/y , it would have been fine and sold well. a basic curved roofline gives it a sports car vibe as opposed to the pointed monstrosity. just giving it a flat top for instead of the peak works 10 times better.

but nooooo, somebody had to use the fancy stainless steel from spacex. and since stamping stainless is way harder than just putting it in a pressbreak you get this polygonal nonsense so that it could come out in 2022(3) or rather 2025 now.

It's not uncommon for car makers to work with tire manufactures to make modifications to an existing tire. It's quite a bit less common for them to get a special made tire specifically for a vehicle. That tire is formed to allow the fitment of that plastic cap. I wonder what the cost of those will be.

What a buffoon. Paying nearly $100k for a super ugly and oversized vehicle, and then more to participate in a public beta program for a feature that will probably not work all that reliably during the life of the vehicle. Something about a fool and money...

and will be a money loser until at least 2025 due to production issues and expenses.

Going back to the beginning of the thread:
So, they unveiled the truck tonight. Uh... let's just say that it will take a certain type of person to really enjoy the aesthetics of the truck.

What's probably the most interesting aspect is the pricing. There are three models...
  1. Single-Motor, RWD, 250 mi range. $39,900
  2. Dual-Motor, AWD, 300 mi range. $49,900
  3. Tri-Motor, AWD, 500 mi range. $69,900
To note, #3 also does 0-60 in 2.9s and has the highest towing capacity of them all. But what I think makes this interesting is if you consider the feature set and the pricing. $39,900 includes features like air suspension, which not even the Model 3 has, and the Model 3 is around the same price range for the same overall range. (Ignoring that there is no 500 mi variant of the Model 3.) This makes me wonder if we'll eventually see features shift as models get revamped and such.
The tri-motor is listed at $69,900 base in November 2019. Using the BLS consumer price index inflation calculator, the inflated price for September 2023, the last month available, we get $83,646.12. Hmm, $98,990 is different than $83,646.12.

Normally I would say this is true but not in this case. If the story is true and Tesla does deliver these 40 trucks in November these 40 are almost all guaranteed to be resold for a lot more on sites like Cars & Bids or Bring a Trailer.

Actually, if the story is true and I was selected I would read over the sales contract with a fine tooth comb to make sure Tesla doesn't have a clause in there about reselling them. If they don't hell yeah I would spend the $100K+ then relist immediately after taking possession.

The ink on the contract wouldn't even be dry before I called up Doug over at Cars & Bids to auction the thing off!

Those pre orders are going to be cancelled at a rapid rate if they are asking $100k!

Nah...that's just the price in 2023. Fully-loaded trucks simply go for $100k these days:

It's ridiculous, but the demand exists!

It's insane how the EV prices just keep going up. Even the F150 lightning is pushing close to 100k after taxes for the base model now as Ford keeps increasing the price. I don't understand how people can even afford this. It's basically like buying a house, except by the time it's paid off it's going to be a pile of rusted scrap. Well maybe the CT will last longer because of it being stainless, so there's that.

The Lightning Pro has a base price of $53K and the XLT Extended Range starts at $71K. Where are you getting this $100K price tag for the base Lightning?

Wait you're Canadian so I assume you are talking Loonies and not Dollars.
