Yup. To keep the monthly payments low. Because the average/median American doesn't understand how loans work.
But also, we've created a society where a car is a requirement. So you need reliable transportation to get to work in the first place. Car breaks down? No income, AND you have to shell out for thousands in repairs on top. So a new/reliable vehicle is almost a requirement rather than a luxury. Because a used car that's not under warranty is a roll of the dice.
(Granted, the median car price still says people are not opting for small/budget vehicles)

Yeah that's true, probably end up a paperweight if they take down their servers. Although I'm sure there would be a hacker community that would find out how to bypass all that stuff and get it running, probably the thing of having to replace a circuit board with a custom hacked version. In theory EVs should actually be simpler than gas cars but every manufacturer is making them a computer on wheels.
Either way it could be a fun project car to try to get it going. If you were to fix all the issues it has, it would be decent. It's just not worth the retarded price they're asking.

I would happily jump on a Mach E or a Kia/Hyundai variant except I have no need to replace my car.
If someone were buying it for me, I'd love an F150 Lightning. It can do everything I need it to do. Out of my budget though. I've never owned a new vehicle, and I doubt I ever will. New cars cost more than I'm willing to pay.
I would love an F150 lightning, but yeah, can't justify spending that kind of money. It's basically a second mortgage. Even the gas cars now, the prices are completely ridiculous. I need to start looking for a new vehicle since my truck is on it's last legs and keep looking into just biting the bullet and going new, but just can't justify that. There is not much on the used market either, think people are just keeping their vehicles longer now due to the insane prices. Even the regular sedans start at like 30k now.
