...why? They don't like the same things that the enthusiast press does, but they're looking for different things.

Like when they rated the Tacoma 4X4 a while back and lowered the ratings because it drives and performs like a truck.

That kind of crap.

Despite all the nay saying about CR's auto reliability ratings, amazingly they mirror the rest of the anecdotal evidence of auto reliability out there.

And aobut the Tacoma....c'mon, they dinged it because it rides worse than any other truck on the market. And they ding every pickup for ride and handling...goes with the territory.

You missed the point. If Tesla is being pro-active with it's customers and swapping out parts when they haven't necessarily failed, is that a reliability issue?

Not really. All of the luxury brands do that...that's why people live under the illusion that more expensive luxury cars never break. They come out pick up your car, do preventative maintenance while you drive a loaner, and you get your car back, and it magically "never breaks".

Everything breaks. But if your customer never sees it break because you're being proactive about it, then your street cred goes up because people like that. Sneaky trick, but it works & allows car dealers to charge more because people will pay for the illusion.

That must be why everybody here suggests people buy older used Porsches, BMWs, Mercedes, and Audis out of warranty.
