girls car. Although, I have no room to speak as I am a four-time Miata owner... but somehow I find RWD cars harder to label as a girls car.

The older AWD turbo ones would be harder to label a girls car compared to the new FWD V6 ones.

Yea thats what I thought, also how reliable are they. Are they even in the same league as honda as far as reliability goes.

Look at the Eagle Talon TSI AWD. My dad had one for a few months... it was a very, very fun car to drive. I'm not sure I'd consider an eclipse that isn't an all wheel drive turbo.

Yep. Same way most Jeep Wranglers are girl cars (unless they have mods, in which case if a girl is driving it and it has a lift kit and big tires, then it becomes HOT!!!)

When did cars become gender specific?

When some were marketed toward women? Come on, look at the VW Bug, gay guys and women.

Some dude down the road from me drives a fuchsia colored VW Bug. The license plate says "Tiffy Bug". It's possibly the worst thing ever.

I'd say it's sad that anyone is so feeble as to get duped into buying into the image some marketeer bozo decides to promote.

Let's face it, cars are basically fancy bullock carts.

Financially, cars are L O S E R S.

Cars don't make you cool, cars don't earn you anything, cars aren't worth supporting with your hard work.

Cars are utilitarian the end. If it's reliable, and it's set up to suit your lifestyle (like if you need to haul stuff for construction or a horse or a boat, etc., or you have a brood of kids, etc.) that's all. The image thing is just marketing, superficial.

Don't buy a Mitsu if you want reliability. Honda and Mitsu are on the extreme opposite ends when it comes to reliability.

Well looked at it, bought it. I think it would be a great first car imo. All the modifications that are available, as i heard.

What if you buy a car not caring at all about the "image" you project...but because you like it? There's something about whipping through sharp turns, or being thrown back in your seat as your car rushes from 30 - 90 mph in a couple seconds, or crawling over nearly impassable trails that just brings a grin to many people's faces. If everyone thought like you, the whole world would drive Corollas. Many people (myself included) want nothing to do with a boring econobox grocery getter.

I have a 1988 Trans Am - arguably, a car with the worst "image" out of all of them. I can't even begin to count the amount of times some comedian made a "mullet" or "white trash" comment about it. But I don't care - I'll probably have that car until it gets totaled, or I die. If someone is seriously stupid enough to think that everyone who drives a certain type of vehicle fits a stereotype that may be associated with said vehicle, then it's not someone whose opinion I value anyway.

That said, some cars just appeal to (or are marketed at) women. V6 Mustang, VW Cabrio / Bug - and yes, some models of the Mitsu Eclipse. But who cares, just buy what makes you happy, not other people.
