Let's face it, cars are basically fancy bullock carts.

Financially, cars are L O O S E R S.

Cars don't make you cool, cars don't earn you anything, cars aren't worth supporting with your hard work.

Cars are utilitarian the end. If it's reliable, and it's set up to suit your lifestyle (like if you need to haul stuff for construction or a horse or a boat, etc., or you have a brood of kids, etc.) that's all. The image thing is just marketing, superficial.

*******Happy Easter to ALL*******

What if you buy a car not caring at all about the "image" you project...but because you like it? There's something about whipping through sharp turns, or being thrown back in your seat as your car rushes from 30 - 90 mph in a couple seconds, or crawling over nearly impassable trails that just brings a grin to many people's faces. If everyone thought like you, the whole world would drive Corollas. Many people (myself included) want nothing to do with a boring econobox grocery getter.

I have a 1988 Trans Am - arguably, a car with the worst "image" out of all of them. I can't even begin to count the amount of times some comedian made a "mullet" or "white trash" comment about it. But I don't care - I'll probably have that car until it gets totaled, or I die. If someone is seriously stupid enough to think that everyone who drives a certain type of vehicle fits a stereotype that may be associated with said vehicle, then it's not someone whose opinion I value anyway.

That said, some cars just appeal to (or are marketed at) women. V6 Mustang, VW Cabrio / Bug - and yes, some models of the Mitsu Eclipse. But who cares, just buy what makes you happy, not other people.

wow QFTMFW.

Yea i mean I think the spyder is more aimed at women. I figured I liked this car and got the guy to lower it to $5000 with only 80000 miles. Has leather, pwr windows/locks and practically a nice car

If a woman can do that, I'd pay her for me to watch it in a heartbeat.

I really don't associate a certain car with one gender or another until they put a bud vase on the dash.

No real man would drive ANY car from Japan, if you're a man drive a man's car - and sorry but a man's car has to be made in the USA!

Well the car i got says it was made in NORMAL, IL USA. 70percent is american made parts. I guess this qualifies to be a man car under ur circumstances. Btw the new eclipses are totally chick cars but I figured the older models are as much imo. I mean this http://cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?t...aId=225348788&recnum=0&leadExists=true
didn't look like a bad deal. We have a dodge stratus and it has the same engine, so working on that engine shouldn't be any difficult. Those engines are known for the headgasket being blown at 75kmiles but its already been replaced, new timing belt, all that good stuff.

I drive a Scion tC which is arguably considered a girl car...but i got it for a steal, has been quite reliable for the first 50k(Toyota drive train), it gets good gas mileage for my 90 mile a day commute and looks half way decent, so it makes me happy for the most part.

If you love driving so passionately you ought to have a Porsche!

But seriously, you have a valid point.

What I had in mind was the pitiful situation that plenty of people get out of bed & trudge off to that job they hate, so they can fork over a big portion of their pay to support some too-expensive car, some phony image.

You see people raising kids in some miserable little apartment, yet they've got a shiny upscale leased car. That's totally misguided. They buy the delusion that "you can tell a lot about a person by the car they drive," which is just false marketing BS. If your 4WD is on TV adverts climbing rocks, that lets the world know you're a rugged macho person? That's a delusion, & is messed up.

I've also read that guys have died in military actions for access to African chrome to make those big American landboat statusmobile bumpers bright & shiny.

Most people wouldn't prioritize shiny chrome bumpers over lives if they ever truly thought about it, but that has occurred. That's messed up too.

Most of the smart sort of people who post here wouldn't buy that phony BS. Leave that for the posters in the P&N forum.

Cars are L O S E R S. ********Happy Easter**********

Don't bother with any mods. If you wanted to mod one you should have found a turbo.
