go to your local dealer and test drive it,

PS anyone know the requirements they make to let you test drive it i don't think they'd let a 16 year old drive a 100k car? I am 20 wondering if i could test drive any car?

I don't see why not... I'd shy away from the BMW and MB dealers though.. they might laugh unless you go in a suit (they do around here)

Probably not the right forum, but it usually depends on what car you drive in with....

As long as you are 18 and above you can test drive almost any car. Though, to test drive ANY car, even the ones that are 100k, you have to be 21. I have friends that have already tried to drive a porshe and others.

heh, hereabouts (bay area) i'd heard that they make you bring in proof (like a bank statement) showing you have enough money to actually be able to make a purchase to be able to test drive ferraris and such

Don't be a prick. If you couldn't afford the car, don't take it for a test drive. If you're THINKING about buying one, or if it could conceivably fall into your price range, that's a different story. But test driving fast cars for laughs? Not cool.

When my dad went to buy his Viper, they wouldn't let him test drive it untill it was paid for. I don't know if this is because it was on the showroom floor at a dealer that seldomly carries Vipers, but I thought it was strange.

Definitely should win the award for dumbest thread ever...

edit: If you can't even spell the name of the car, " Ferrari ", it's extremely likely you will never even come close (FYI, '91 Hyundai's are not real close, even though the manufacturer does have several vowels in the spelling, so it's kind of the same thing).

As someone once said,,,"Statistically,,,you are the weakest link... Goodbye".

You really 20? I guess it's better that you learn late than never about dealer test drives. I'll save you a little time - when they see your giggly zit-faced ass riding up on the diminuitive BMX bicycle you've had since middle school, they're not gonna let you drive anything.
Rather than bother the dealer, why don't you find a friend who has a job and drive his car around?

<< STi WRX >>

If it ever gets to the U.S. in non-detuned form... Hey, here's praying for a skyline v-spec... I guess if Motorex halved their priceses on those R32 cars, and made the left hand drive, I'd be all over them.

$31,000 for a 1990 R32 GT-R STD 61,000km <-- Cheapest one

$53,500 1996 GT-R VSPEC Silver 40800km <-- Most expensive

Test drive or not is typically either a set policy of the dealer, or at the whim of the salesman. I live in Orange, Cal, and half the time you can't tell the millionaires from homeless, so most dealers don't give you a lot of trouble unless that light goes off in their head that says you aren't buying. I've driven all kinds of cars, and only a couple were a PITA to get a test drive, the worst was actually a stinkin Nissan dealer.

With something like the Viper you have to understand the dealer doesn't WANT to sell it until the end of the year since they only get one, and its really to bring people in so they can sell them a minivan. When I bought my last Porsche the dealer was crawling with high school kids that really were getting a Porsche for their birthday, good grades etc.

The main thing with a car dealer is that either they will let you or they won't, you can't hang around and "talk them into it". Don't expect to drive cars off the showroom floor, or buried six cars deep next to a building (My failed attempt in 1974 to drive a Pantera). Find a car on the line you like, ask for a test drive, and if you aren't behind the wheel in 10 minutes go to another dealer.

BTW a good story goes a long way, ie my grandma is buying me any car I want for my 18th birthday, etc.

All that said, don't waste all your money on a fast car and insurance, you aren't going to get to drive it fast anyway.

"the car looks really nice" ?? I doubt it. Only the turbo look very nice. But still not a performance competitor for BMW on street.

By age 18 I had test drove a Mitsu 3000GT (now own), Jeep Wrangler 4x4, Camaro Z28 SS (SLP mods), Formula Firebird V8, 4banger Camry (what a rush *cough*), Mustang GT. And everytime I was in my typical tshirt, khaki pants, and nike's.

Although, I did have one lady (who tried to sell me the Formula Firebird V8) who thought I was 23.. I was 18 at the time.. hadn't shaved in a few days. She questioned my age when I took off my leather coat and revealed a "geek." tshirt.

For the Camaro SS, I used the .com story (may not work now given current economy haha). For the Mustang, I told the guy I just test drove an SS and wanted to know if the GT was even "remotely comparable". The Wrangler and Camry were because my parents were there and they wanted a new car, so I got to test drive simply because they were there. 3000GT, I had just got my license, and we bought it a week later.

Also scored a friend several test drives in multiple 300ZX TwinTurbos. Always helps to have a nice car to get test drives in other nice cars. Almost got to "test drive" a Lambo Diablo VT Roadster, but that's because he was a friend of a friend of a friend.

I second gyfer's comments. Now I personally haven't found any magazines to get the US Subaru WRX to 0-60 quicker than 5.9, maybe you could show me one. I doubt the car is on backorder, just try going to a different dealership... when the Integra Type R was "rereleased' a few years back, the best deal for those on the west coast was to find a dealership in Kansas that had one and would hold it for you, fly out there, buy it, and drive it back. I'd recommend it for the WRX.

Just remember, our WRX is crap compared to the Asia/Euro one. Even worse is that there's a station wagon version of it. That's just depressing. There's no stationwagon Supra/3000GT/300ZX/MR-2/Trans Am/Z28/Mustang.. you just don't do that to a sports car..
