Testosoterone and other questions

Hello,

I am 28 years old. Male. My blood test results came back as follows:
DHT – 468 pg/ml
Testosterone – 523 ng/dl
TSH – 1.530

A month later, I got these tests done:
Testosterone – 683 ng/dl
Estradiol – 33 pg/ml

My issue is less facial hair. I have a good mustache and good hair growth on my chin and a thin line along my jawline. But I don’t have hair on my cheeks. To try to get more facial hair, the doctor I consulted suggested I go for testosterone injections for a few months or to go for a DHT cream. I am inclined to go for Testosterone injections. What do you think?

Are my tests results alright? Is my estradiol a little high? I am afraid I have started developing small breasts. Also, mood Swings and fatigue are a commonplace. Can the high-ish estradiol be the reason for my bear not growing?

Please advice.

I don't know, but does having a beard actually mean so much you're willing to get any kind of injections? I don't grow the best beard (it takes me maybe 3-4 months to get full face coverage), and I'd never consider any kind of injection. I just go clean shaven.

Also, it could be genetic. My father also can't grow a beard. I know a lot of Asians don't grow facial hair very well (except for long ass eye brows and a fu manchu >_> ).

According to a couple of sources I've read, your estradiol levels are dead in the middle and your testosterone is fine as well. If you're going to go through serious medical intervention just to grow facial hair, there is something very wrong with your self-image. Also, to address the moodswings and fatigue - are you sleeping 8h most nights? Eating well? Limiting your caffeine intake? Limiting your alcohol intake? There are a lot better explanations than your testosterone/estradiol levels right now for those symptoms.

^^ Agreed - why be concerned about facial hair? Personally I shave every day and am over 40; I've never really cared for facial hair, it's a pain to deal with and my wife doesn't like it either.

My advice: shave and don't worry about facial hair. It's simply not worth injecting yourself with hormones to grow hair.

Your test results are fine. I would politely suggest that if you want testosterone injections despite perfectly normal serum sex hormone levels you need psychiatric help a lot more than sex hormones.

Don't stress over adding facial hair, it's not going to change your attractiveness. Why mess around with your body's hormones? Your current levels are fine. If you want to improve yourself, there's tons of other things you can do instead of this which I don't think is even an improvement.

Having sufficient facial hair is more genetic than anything as far as I know. Trying to grow it with testosterone injections would be like me pouring water on my head to make my hair grow. I'm slowly going bald, and it ain't 'cause I made bad decisions!

So don't stress it. Be confident and embrace your other qualities and the women won't think twice or care whether you have facial hair or not.

Very early this year, I went to see my GP because I was suffering from extreme fatigue. My blood work revealed that I was afflicted with hypothyroidism. In addition, I also saw on my report that my testosterone levels were as follows:

Free Testosterone (Direct) 6.8 (Normal: 7.2-24.0 pg/mL) L
Testosterone, Total, LC/MS 352.7 (Normal: 348.0-1197.0 ng/dL)

My physician prescribed me medication for my thyroid condition. I specifically brought up my T level measures in our conversation. He said it was within normal range. I am 57 years old. I told my doc that my T level was that of the median level for a 70 to 80 year old. He agreed and prescribed Depo-Testosterone shots for me. I take 1 ml every two weeks.

It's hard to tell which of the two -- the thyroid med or the D-Testosterone shots -- was (or if both were) responsible for lifting me out of that crushing feeling of fatigue. But, I am glad I started taking that. But, I am also 57. I would not advise anyone under the age of 45-50 to do this unless your levels were really, really low.

unless you have the "facial hair" of justin bieber (/giggle), don't worry about it.

facial hair is genetic most of all, some men will never be able to grow a decent beard.
I personally have very high testosterone and DHT levels (within normal limits according to my doctor but very high nonetheless), coupled with my genetic predisposition to male pattern baldness I'm in my early 20's and thinning on top.
I could take DHT blockers and spend thousands of dollars on other products, trying to regain what I used to have, but I'm not going to fuck around with my body like that, not over something as silly as a little baldness. Being that vain is unhealthy.

the best thing you can do for your beard is give it optimal conditions (diet, sleep, skin care etc.) and lots of time, if that doesn't work then just come to terms with the fact you can't grow the beard you'd like and move on with your life.

I have goatee + moustache and the hair density is close enough to make it look reasonable IMO, but there are patches on my jaw line where hair growth is virtually non-existent, and I would look bloody silly growing a full beard IMO because of it. I was a pretty late starter with regard to facial hair growth as well.

The last time my dad tried to grow a beard, the general opinion was that he looked like a hobo Partly because of the hair density not being consistent, but also because it was white, grey, ginger and black in random places. Beards aren't for everyone, just like I have to accept the fact that I'm almost as bald as my dad despite being more than 30 years younger. It sucks a bit.

Another thing to consider is that (I'm fairly sure anyway), the majority of women aren't really attracted to men growing their facial hair.

I've actually read the most attractive facial hair is after 10 days of not shaving. Being scruffy seems to be in.

OP, I really do think it is genetics. Native Americans had no facial hair, for example. Perhaps you just weren't meant to have a beard. Plus, you'll get a lot more women with a 6-pack and some big muscles than being flabby with a lumberjack beard.

You got a source to back that up?

QFT, the OP's levels look fine.

I find it bizarre that they tested your estradiol levels...

Last time I was tested my Free Testosterone was 5, Total was 40 something, Estradiol was 173, prolactin within normal levels, TSH like 17 or something (yea I know that's bad), and I still could grow a beard if I wanted to : p

Unless you're in the bowels of a red nightmare over this, I would not take hormones just for facial hair.

Getting testerone therapy just to grow facial hair really sounds extreme. Have you considered your facial hair just may be genetic predispostion?

Apparently, I'm not the only one who believes if your issue is truly 'less facial hair' then you don't really have an issue that requires going for injections. It just sounds very extreme for what you describe.

Like others here, I suggest that you work on improving your self image and perhaps start a exercise routine. I'd think that some running and a little weight lifting would do a lot for your conditions. Of course, if you are unhappy with the results of running and weight lifting, you could always go for the injections later. Personally, I'd start with the simple things that I could do myself.

BTW: I don't know why, but somehow I don't think that Testosterone injections would really be suggested as a remedy for 'mood swings'...
