Testosterone booster?

Noticing the thread on the testosterone gel, I am considering that I might have low testosterone. Before I go to the doctor, I thought I might try one of the supplements I see online sometimes. I have researched what I think is the best one out there (So far as I can tell) but was hoping for some thoughts on if they are worth it, or really work or not.

Anyone used these supplements before? I was intending to try this one:

Odds are low that anything calling itself a "testosterone booster" will work.

I agree with that in theory, but being that this is a "supplement" there is really no regulation on it, so it could be all just placebo effect... I was hoping to find someone on here who had used one...

In the past I have used products containing ingredients like the one linked. Money wasted and no results. I do continue to supplement D-aspertic acid because it's cheap and it's the only product I have ever used that actually made me feel better.

Regardless, consistent 8hrs sleep and eating well does more for me than any supplement.

You need to go to the doctor prior to doing anything. You suspect you may have low testosterone. It's pointless to try to raise it if you don't even know if it's low. Go to the doctor to get it tested. If it's low, you can try supplements prior to trying serious hormone replacement therapy (if you want). It's inappropriate to try to treat yourself based on a hunch. You need some blood values - a cheap and easy test - first.

Almost all insurance will cover this type of blood test. You will want to see your results because even if you are in the normal range, anything under 600 is not good.

Hopefully its not a Goku like result (Its over 9000!)

God bless you, sir. I saw a commercial the other day saying "You wouldn't want your doctor doing your job so don't try to do your doctor's." It makes a lot of sense. Best of luck. If you find out your testosterone levels are normal, that's definitely one less thing to worry about. You may just need to improve your diet and sleep schedule more than anything else. Those will both significantly affect everything low T affects (libido, energy levels, feelings of wellness).

Ok, it took a while for me to get my tests ordered and to start getting the results. They had me do two tests; One for testosterone, and one for something called prolactin. My prolactin result came in this morning and it is at 15.4. Some quick online research seems to indicate that number is either at the high part of the normal range, or is just into the "high" range. Anyone know anything about prolactin? Anything that I should be concerned about? (I will post the actual testosterone test results when I get them).

Ok, the testosterone levels came in, and it is about what I was thinking it was...264. Much like the prolactin levels, I am just barely inside what they seem to consider the "normal" range. I am going to try to convince my doctor to help me with this in some way, but has anyone here had low testosterone like this? Any advice?

Thats not good but there might be more tests since test levels rise and fall through the day. The ideal situation would be find out whats causing your low test (possibly a thyroid disorder or a varicocele) and fix it instead of taking patches/cream/injections which would be a lifelong thing.

From what I have read and understand, the testosterone level is highest in the morning. Based on that, I scheduled the test for 7:30 AM (the earliest time they offer it). I am not sure if that matters much, but this should be about as high of a result as I think I am likely to get right now.

Is there a particular specalist I should see for stuff like this? A urologist?

Normal range for testosterone is 348-1197, anything under 500 in a male should be treated.

Also these results are best if taken prior to 9am as testosterone levels natually fall during the day. At 264, even if this was taken at night; I doubt you'd be in the proper range at anytime of the day.

Assuming nothing points otherwise, I'd talk about testosterone therapy with your doc. There are different methods from gels to IM injections as well as different combinations along with Testosterone.

There is more to the big picture though like free testosterone, your estrogen levels, etc.

I think the specialist for this would be an endocrinologist. Is your diet/sleep/exercise all top notch?

Top Notch? I don't know anyone who could say that. I am somewhat overweight (5'7", 198.4 lbs as of this morning) but I have been weightlifting for the last 18 months, so not all of that is fat. I JUST started cutting in the last few weeks, (down in 2 weeks from 210) and am taking in about 100-120 grams of protein each day (no soy. Whey and animal protein sources), and am doing about 1500 calories a day. Yes yes, starvation mode, but it works just fine for me when cutting.

I sleep 6-8 hours a night. I have a 1 month old daughter right now, so it has lately tended to be interrupted, but I fall back asleep quickly.

I lift weights 3 days a week, using mostly the Starting Strength methodology (I prefer high bar squat, but follow him other than that). I also have been trying to work sprints into my schedule, but have not been very consistent.

Is that sufficient, or do I need more of a breakdown than that?

I doubt sleep/diet/exercise problems would ever drop testosterone that low.

In reality if you are looking into TRT/HRT you'd want to see a doctor that advertizes it. Many doctors still don't believe in treating low testosterone and feel it's a normal part of aging.

In my case I saw a cardiologist.

Well, I have a message into my regular doctor. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and give him a chance to respond to the message I sent him asking how he wants to proceed on this. If I don't hear from him, I will find another doctor that will help me with this.

Thanks everyone for the advice. If anyone is interested, I will post what the next steps I take, be them more tests, replacement therapy, or what not.

My test was around 325. My primary care physican feels it shouldn't be treated, yet will prescribe me Lovaza as soon as my triglycerides go a little in the red and Benecar HCT as soon as my blood pressure goes up.

You have to realize many times entering this arena requires you to be in it for life.

Definitely eliminate anything that could be causing it other than simply your body has dwindled it's production. Also many of the TRT/HRT forums are sadly pissing contests with those that lost their nuts thinking use that are still intact are simply trying to cheat the system and get 'legal steroids'.

The 100-200mg dosages of Testosterone once a week is nothing like those that abuse steroids will use. They are usually doing multiple doses at 500MG or more a week + stacking other anabolics at the same time.

264 is low? How old are you if don't mind me asking. Mine is always around 500 higher than 450. My last one a few weeks ago was 475 I believe. Trib and ZMA should help you out some, but you need therapy for levels that low.

Ehhhhh

You should maybe have your estrogen level checked as well. Definately find a sports doctor. He should know other things to check for. At 32 thats not very good. But you can use trib stacked with ZMA. 500-1000 mgs with 30 mg ZMA 2-3 times a day. Glutamine will also help you out as well, to help raise your Growth Hormone levels. But get to that sports doctor, but the good news is at your age you can quickly correct whatever the issue is.
