A judge has ruled that the high school cheerleaders in Texas do have the legal right to wave banners with quotes of biblical verses during the football games.

The freedom from religion foundation complained about the banners last September and the school said no the cheerleaders.

This is definitely a win for the cheerleaders who can now have their banners.

There have been many attempts to silence and shut down Christianity like this but this a loss for the freedom from religion foundation.

Do you think the judge made the right decision? Do the cheerleaders have the right to display their banners?

If the cheerleaders for some reason wanted to display banners depicting Qur'an verses, would you be ok with that?

Where did I move anything? I simply restated the same thing. They aren't promoting a religion by simply allowing the students to display a religion message. Since when does doing nothing equate to promoting something?

It would be an infringement of their first amendment rights to prevent them from displaying a religious message. A court of law isn't going to allow that to happen because of this.

You seem to subscribe to belief that we have freedom from religion in this country. We do not.
Well said. Somehow we've gone over the edge and decided that not establishing a state religion means eliminating all signs of religion.

Paging incorruptible, paging incorruptible....

Can you provide a yes/no response to this simple question? You've dodged it several times already in your own thread. Do you really stand up for your beliefs or not?

This is a failure of management. Cheerleaders have an adult supervisor who is supposed to supervise them. What does a bunch of religious quotes have to do with cheering on the team?

Of course he doesn't, he is 100% troll. It seriously angers me that there hasn't been any serious action taken against him because of his constant trolling, along with his racist and Islamophobic threads and posts.

But then again the moderation staff let Holocaust deniers and 9/11 truthers stick around for much longer than him.
If they are OK with P&N being a step up from Stormfront that is their business, not a whole lot I can do about it.

If people actually listened and believed when sitting in their church of choice, we wouldn't need cheereaders (??lol) pulling this shit in the first place at the game.
There is school patriotism, and then there is anal.
This is anal pure and smelly simple.

I can agree with that. I did do some research and see how the Supreme Court has made decisions on the First Amendment. Obviously, there is alot of gray area with this--as can be seen by all of the turmoil for and against it. I know the original intent is so that the gov't can't establish its own religion like England did back in the 1700s.

But if we take things this far, then why not ban prayers by gov't officials when held at gatherings in gov't locations? I don't believe when a President prays that he is saying that the US govt officially supports Christianity.

The short answer is that common sense has no place in any gov't law or function apparently. Everything must be spelled out clearly or it will be misinterpreted.

A state religion isn't just one that is officially declared as such. If the government can openly endorse a particular religion, it's a state religion whether they "officially" say it is or not.

In Israel, they do have Judaism as an official state religion, but they in fact tend not force it on people. According to the narrow interpretation of our Establishment Clause, *that* situation would be unconstitutional but the reverse - where there is no official declared state religion but the state does openly push it on people - would be Constitutional. Well, our SCOTUS has ruled, and I agree, that actually both situations are unconstitutional.

The state cannot end around the Constitution by trying to accomplish indirectly what the Constitution precludes them from doing directly.

Some very legitimate. Public dollars should not be used to simultaneously promote one religion and demote others.

Yes and yes. This is not an example of a legitimate gripe by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

I agree with you. As long as tax dollars aren't used then I am alright with it and in this case the cheerleaders paid for the banners.

This definitely isn't a legitimate gripe and the group that complained is in Wisconsin.

That's a very myopic view to take.

So? The cheerleaders are representatives of the school during the football game, because they belong to a school sponsored team/club and are participating in a school-sanctioned event.

Distance has never stopped your vitriol for Muslims.

I heard that sex sell but, scantily dressed women/girls displaying religious quotes?,

maybe instead they ought to crack open that bible of theirs and read it

1 Timothy 2:9
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array

It's OK by me. After all football is just modern day bread and circuses, Christians vs. the Lions. One would think that stuff like 'love your enemies' and 'turn the other cheek' would get the testosterone flowing. And don't forget the Bible folk have already won. They have the Hail Mary Pass and lion poop is born again as greener grass.

The fact that several people have asked and he hasn't responded yet pretty much tells you all you need to know. Of course he's for christians doing this while at the same time, he'd be outraged and calling for a ban if it were muslims doing this.

edit:

This is definitely a win for Christianity and if only more judges were as reasoned as this guy.

Notice how incorruptible says it's a win for ***CHRISTIANITY***, not ***RELIGION***

The reason I didn't respond to them was because they want it for Muslims but not Christians. Any links to these Muslim cheerleaders?

The majority of Americans are Christian so by that the US is a Christian country and I am not talking about the Constitution.

Now you're just making shit up, oh wait, no that's just business as usual. I'm pretty sure the people making fun of you are against ALL religions being promoted at such events.

The reason why you didn't respond to them, is because it's 100% obvious that you're for promotion of Christianity at public events, public property, but not Muslim or any other religion.

You are literal human garbage.
