Funny, I'm on community/Communist (if you prefer) solar and I never lose power from the cold. That will teach them to go all green. Spark up that old coal plant!

In San Antonio it has been mostly low 20s today, though it has crept up to 28F now.How cold is it getting there? We lost power for a few seconds here after the huge snow/sleet storm Friday and the temps dropping to -5 over the weekend. Happened sometime at night, only noticed because the oven clock was blinking.
No drop-outs here, fortunately.Well the local utility here Puget Sound Energy. Has been requesting people to reduce their power consumption (finally broke above freezing at one point yesterday) due to unusual power usage. Yea, it's cold as shit Sherlock. Piss poor planning is what I surmise.
Yesterday, had, oh, probably 7 drop outs. Fortunately, only for 4 to 10 seconds.
power outages? I have had none across the sound from you, in comparison.
You be wolfy now!Wait, why are you all disagreeing with greenman? We know that green energy is the problem, frozen windmills nowhere near Texas that winter were STILL THE PROBLEM! That's how bad green energy is for everybody. Wherever it is, it fucks shit up all over the planet! Y'all are just with the herd here, the facts prove that green energy is a failure. I was part of your herd once, but now I see the light! Green energy bad!
I'm moving to one of the deep south M states as soon as I can! There's like no racism!
This thread's about Texistan tbhIn short, America needs to spend money on infrastructure programs and diversifying it's grid.
This afternoon when the wind picked up a bit, the spot prices on the Southwest Power Pool (Great Plains sans Texas) when from being $500/MW-hr across the network to being less than $14/MW-hr across most of the network. Wind is currently in curtailment, as it has been for much of this cold snap, meaning there is more capacity available if needed. When we were setting record lows across the network, wind was carrying 50% of the load, with dino burners around 40% total.Wait, why are you all disagreeing with greenman? If you weren't aware, TX isn't connected to the national grid. That's why they get it hard during the now-normal-extremes.In short, America needs to spend money on infrastructure programs and diversifying it's grid.

They need line heaters in the extreme cold and they don't always have them in Texas.
He just fell for the spin Republicans put on it. Despite it being the fossil fuel plants that failed during that cold snap Republicans immediately started lying about the issue and claimed it was green energy that was the cause. Looks like at least one person fell for the lies.Texas didn't feel the need to plan for something that will only happen when Hell freezes over. Nevermind that they voted for the Devil.
And Greenman shows what a moron he is, not knowing why the Texas grid failed the last time, and is teetering on the edge now.
Must be why they never put solar and windmills in MN....oh wait we have both and somehow they magically work in winter. Actually the wind is stronger in the winter here.He just fell for the spin Republicans put on it. Yes, and yes. But more than just "spending money", America needs to get NIMBY's under control. This is one of the cases where I see eminent domain as not just beneficial for the country, but vitally necessary.Battery farms.
They called me today about my performance during "a power reduction event" I was 70 out of 100. I then pressed 9 to opt out of their BS.No drop-outs here, fortunately.
A natural gas storage facility in Lewis County had an emergency shutdown though.

That's great where Solar/Wind excess daytime power can be scavenged. New England isn't ideal for solar (unless material scientist manage a big jump in affordable efficiency). We are starting to collect offshore wind - but that faces allot of problems as wind tower/blades grow in size for economic reasons (NIMBY - those towers wreck our ocean view, even when they are 5mi offshore ).Battery farms.
Ah, it feels like only a few short months ago you were lamenting the utterly obscene heat there... 🤪Looks like we dodged a bullet this morning. Our temps were a little higher than forecast (19 instead of 16 at 8AM) and with a sunny day we probably should make it to the 37 high forecast as opposed to yesterday which was dreary and cloudy and didn't come close to the 36 forecast (only got to 28). There's a chance we could still have problems in the morning tomorrow too since our low is forecast to be 16 but with a high of 48 forecast even if there are blackouts it shouldn't be for too long. Looks like around 7PM today could be pretty close before wind starts really kicking in but probably not as close as 8AM this morning.
This article just popped up on my the CF forum site I lurk at. Always a section about green energy tech. That's great where Solar/Wind excess daytime power can be scavenged. Well, if you’re in a gated community in Jackson, MS, you’re probably right. It’d be lily white, so no racism to be found there. 🤓I'm moving to one of the deep south M states as soon as I can! There's like no racism!
