2,666kWh per month? That's almost 92kWh a day. How many AC units do you have running?
Just one central unit. I do most of my work from home and have a bit of computer equipment running 24/7.
Also, did you miss the part where we have had no rain and 101+ temps for the last 30 days?

perhaps a couple more nuclear plants would be a good investment. at least provide a reliable, 24/7 baseload power that also provides the needed freqency stability and inertia a grid needs.

Perhaps nuclear waste is not so bad. I hear it can be recycled ♻️ just like plastic bottles can be recycled yet aren't

Maybe Americans are stupid and look for corporate solutions instead of natural solutions like in the old world:

You can use the same principle with house construction.. might not be up to code but will save you a fortune.

I have over 4000 sq ft home + a EV. That's part of the reason it's so high. And a 20 yr old ac compressor that probably over the time is down to like 10 SEER by now. I'm at about 4k kWh a month during the summer.

That's why at least in the south most of the houses had 12ft ceilings and lots of windows. Then along came relatively cheap electricity.

As clever as natural solutions of the old world are, they're of limited use for much of the US. Many central and southern US states hit 100 degrees with 50-80% humidity, you can't make that bearable with natural convection alone, you need AC to stay cool.

Figure on most central cooling systems pulling 5.7kWh [((30*.8)*240)/1000] per hour of operation. It adds up quickly.

You dou realize we survived without ac for millenia? My parents house is nearly 100 years old, built like a fortress (unlike today's poorly built cracker boxes) and was designed to keep you cool with no AC.

It has a large front and back covered porches, a basement (in Texas!) and a gigantic fan in the attic that sucks in air from outside to keep you cool if the windows are open.

At night it actually used to be be so cold in the middle of summer it was surprising. It would be like sleeping in the back of a truck bed going down the highway at 50MPH.

1930s tech. 😉

Houston is currently at 80 degrees at night time and 70% humidity. I would hardly call that "cold". In my opinion that's downright miserable for night time.

That seems a bit high. I live in North Texas near Dallas, where it the temps have been 101+ for over 30 straight days.
I just got my bill for the month of August :

Charge Details - 29 Day Billing Period From 07/20/2023 To 08/18/2023
Energy Charge 2,666 kWh @ $0.085882/kWh 228.96
Oncor Electric Delivery Charges 106.86
Gross Receipts Tax Reimbursement 6.70
Current Charges $342.52

The average price you paid for electric service this month (per kWh) $0.126

In CA with SDGE in East San Diego, and my Time-Of-Use rate my charges are $0.154 for 0000-0600 $0.816 for 1600-2100 and $0.481 for everything else.

That is why I just installed a 20kw solar-system + Batteries. Already used 2750 kwh in August but I generated 2700 kwh from my solar system.

Did I miss the cold front with dry air coming though? 70% humidity sounds downright pleasant.

Nope, looking now, tomorrow morning 6-7am low is forecast at 80 degrees for Houston again, at 90% humidity...

Honestly 90% humidity at 80 degrees at 6AM seems a little low for Houston. That's a 77 dew point, which is more in line with how humid our mornings are in San Antonio.
