In fact, the country has been more divided in the past, a lot more. We had a shooting war, that's about as divided as you can get.

The crap we're seeing today is simply the far left and right making more noise. People at either extreme aren't deep thinkers, they latch on to an idea or position and won't consider any other alternative. It's the stead fast belief that everyone that disagrees with you is stupid that ends all dialog. All sorts of ignorance stems from that basic belief. That's why we see post after post of "proof" that the other side is inferior, that they shouldn't be allowed a voice in the political arena. As that thinking grows, politics becomes a team sport. It's not about seeking out common ground, or finding workable solutions to problems, it's about winning. Beating the other team is all that matters.

Of course I could be wrong, we could all just be assholes.

Yay! I always wanted to see what a pure plutocratic system of gov't would do to its middle class and their poor. I wonder what their health care system will look like. I wonder what they'll do to all the illegal immigrants that are frimly entrenched in their midst and working for pennies for the plutocrats that will be running things. I wonder how well their foreign diplomacy policies will work out with Bolton as their SecState. I wonder if all of those very rich folks who run the Repub Party will give up their citizenship to join the New Corporate Confederacy LLC and run it like a country club.

I wonder if the whole Repub Party will stand on principle and ideology and leave the Union enmass to seek the holy grail of tax heaven/havens where they will push for having to pay absolutely no taxes at all for their rich and have their quickly vaporizing middle class and their permanently poor pay for it all without any social services to help them, and also have the smallest government footprint on the face of this earth. Where they will be free from any kind of government imposed regulations for their business and financial sectors. Where fundamentalist Christians will outlaw all other forms of religion and have their doctrines firmly positioned in their new Constitution, especially in the area of promoting how being rich gives all a better chance at entering heaven and how being poor is a guaranteed ticket to hell.

Where schools (and everything else) will be run for profit and if you can't afford it, well, there's always those menial jobs that the rich will need to service their every need. Where if you can't afford health care, well, go off and die in the desert somewhere. Where the rich will make sure every citizen below a millionaire is indentured to them for life, just like the good old days.

I just can't wait to see how that works out for them. lol
