Rome hardly flourished. Certainly not after their "Texans" voted for bread and circuses. Learning life's "shitty" lessons happens just by living. Having an asshole Texan decide who and when doesn't fall anywhere in the constitution that I know about. Particularly, when the vast majority have a darker skin than you. Institutionalized racism is hardly something to be proud of.
I don't know, going from a city state to controlling the majority of the known world as an empire for hundreds of years seems like flourishing to me. Certainly much better results than we have had so far and I don't see us lasting another few hundred years at the rate we are going.
Learning those lessons is much harder if you are shielded from the ill effects of them. I am not anti-abortion, hell setup free abortion booths on every corner right next to the suicide booths, just don't hand out assistance to people that fuck up their lives.
And you may not want to presume someones heritage on the internet, half of my family have been here since Texas was part of Mexico and still barely speak English. It wasn't until my grandfather decided his children wouldn't learn Spanish that it stopped being the only language spoken. Tejano culture is an integral part of Texas and anyone here that is against Tejanos isn't a real Texan. So just forget about this darker skin bullshit I am prejudiced against people from other states that want to come here and tell us we are doing it wrong not people with a different skin color.
As for Austin, people follow the money as they've always done. Maybe they can follow the likes of Phoenix and become the second largest gated community in North America. Oh wait, that pesky "open border" pretty much insures your second class status. The only one shielding children from reality is the Texas educational system. That's why so many never leave Texas, they get laughed at when they do.
The city of Austin sucks, mostly due to the number of California transplants that have completely changed the city over the last two decades, I hope they do wall themselves in and keep the problems there with them.
Also please don't associate me with thinking that stupid ass wall is going to do anything other than put money in people's pockets, drive up ladder sales in Mexico and strip land away from the current owners.
I love the Texas education system, competing with idiots is much easier than intelligent people.
