That is both terrible and hilarious. That poor guy!

Here's the issue though - doesn't sound like he got anything in writing:

As the paperwork was being completed, Mr. Oberholtzer’s son started peeling off the decal on the truck that showed the phone number and name of the company, but the salesman told him to stop because it would harm the paint and said it would be removed later, the lawsuit said.

But on a more serous note:

Mr. Oberholtzer said his business had suffered. Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents met with him and advised him to protect himself, the lawsuit said. He started carrying a handgun.

In September, after excerpts from the Colbert segment aired during an Emmy Awards ceremony, the calls to Mr. Oberholtzer flared up again, averaging 100 to 200 every day, the lawsuit said.

The thing that kills me about humanity is how fast people turn on each other. 100 threat calls a day? They should be embarrassed to call themselves Americans.

Yes. Because not only am I a terrorist sympathizer, I want to advertise my business at the same time.

Yup, I'm smart like that.

C'mon 'Merica.

people think he donated the truck? is paying to display his stickers!?

I would just assume it's a stolen car or something.

Yes, these are people that consider themselves qualified voters in this country.

Huge surprise.

Can you imagine what he must've thought the first time he saw his truck over there. Has there ever been a more deserving W----T----F.

It really is funny, but I do feel he deserves compensation. Average his income over the three years prior, multiply by ten, and cut a check.

I wonder if law enforcement investigated the trail the truck took to get over there. Maybe some good came out of all this and they nailed some of the ISIS back office people and learned about their network.

I wouldn't mind having the gun on my truck.

Also: why did they obscure the gunner's face? Protecting the identity of an innocent jihadi?

It was sold at a vehicle auction. Not much needed to get into those.

How did the truck end up thousands of miles away, in the Middle East? The Saudis buy a lot of used SUVs and trucks from the U.S, then supply it to ISIS?

This hit the news like 6 months ago. Must have taken him this long to find a lawyer to take the case.

Not just them. Could just as easily been Turkey or Iraq.

Import a boatload of used cars and sell them for a markup in your dealership, ISIS invades your town and steals your inventory.

LOL this happened a couple years back too, and it was the same plumbing company. I thought it was just a photoshop, but it's real? That's hilarious lol. Ridiculous that people are actually threatening him though, it's not his fault.

Never sell a company vehicle without removing decals, though. This is a great example of why. lmao.

We are very self predatory.

War: "Those guys over there want to kill you. No seriously, trust me, they do. Go kill them first. I'll just wait back here."

"Ok, I don't see a problem with that."

Lawsuits: "Wait, you mean I can use other people as a source of lots of money? Neat!"
It incentivizes people to go after each other, and we don't have a problem with it.

Workers: "I can own people? And I can make them work until they die and not pay them anything? Awesome!"

Historically, we have no problem treating others horribly.
This is a step up for humanity: This guy wasn't killed by a mob the day after the photo was seen in the US.
Kind of a low bar to set, but still.

I'm curious what grounds he could be suing on. Even if you assume there was a verbal agreement concerning the removal of the logo, it's breach of contract. And sure, he has actual damages from that breach but if the damages weren't reasonably foreseeable, I don't know how he collects anything. It sounds like a nuisance suit that you file just to get the defendant to settle.

edit: this doesn't seem to be a case where you would apply strict liability.
