In 2011, Republican and former State Representative Jim Stick was arrested for drunk driving. He has since been appointed as chief legal counsel for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, earning an annual salary of $162,000.

In 2009, Kaufman County District Attorney Rick Harrison was found guilty of drunk driving after driving the wrong way in traffic.

In 2003, Swisher County D.A. Terry McEachern was found guilty of a DWI.

What's the difference between these District Attorneys and the Travis County District Attorney? It could be that they are Republicans. More likely, it's that these district attorneys were not overseeing investigations of the governors signature project the Cancer Research Fund which has since resulted in a felony indictment.

3 Republicans were caught drunk while driving,... nada.

1 Democrat gets caught drunk,... force her to resign.

Why is that?

Well, not that you care, but the issue with Lehmberg was more her abusive behavior with the cops than the DUI itself.

In Texas it's about who has the most. it's a constant battle of keeping up with the Jones's, and there are a couple of things that will get you picked off in Texas politics.. Jewishness, and blackness, and not supporting the good ole boy system.

she shouldn't have crossed Rick Perry (pure bred american Texan)
and when she went to jail, she should have STFU, not parroted who she was (since she's not in the good ole boy system)..

she should have rolled over and taken it.

that's the reality of Texas and Texas politic.

i dont like it either, but i'm aware of it.

"An individual who when booked in had to be restrained, was abusive to law enforcement, was kicking the door, I think Americans and Texans who have seen this agree with me that that is not an individual who is heading up an office that we can afford to fund," Perry said at a news conference Saturday.

Oh oh, abusive towards cops,.. oh, right - THAT behavior is terrible and need to be punished,.. not the actual act of getting into an automobile and driving around intoxicated.

So, it's OK to disrespect the law itself, but, don't you dare disrespect the cops - this was proven to be the case, 3 times.

Lets be honest, if she was as pleasant as punch, Perry still would have demanded she resigned.

Maybe, maybe not. Since it didn't happen that way we will never know.

There is some merit to the argument that her actions that night permanently and irrevocably damaged her reputation with the law enforcement community which would inhibit incoming reports from that portion of government.

Swisher county has a population of 7,000... Do you really think anyone gets put in jail for anything there? Come on now. Kaufman county has around 100,000, but it is a Dallas suburb. Travis county has over a million people in it.

This has little to do with Republican and Democrat and more to do with one of those (the one forced to resign that lived in huge county...) wasn't friendly with everyone in power.
