Didn't look too hard to stuff back in. Now we use her as a door stop.

Of course they have to teach the kids to pass the 'Test' - don't need no learnin',
just results to put on a pie chart showing how good we are doing it.

Homeschoolers -- big winners in national spelling and geography bees -- are criticized for "unfair advantages."

I lived in El-Paso for a while and I think half the people in that are are from Mexico. Least it seemed that way. I wonder if non residents pull test scores down.

Homeschooling is great if you want to lock your kids up in the house for the rest of their life. Their are things called communication and socializing and "real life". You won't ever learn any of that just sitting in your house all day.

True. No matter what good intentions you may have, home school is a terrible thing to do to your child's future. They learn no social and communication skills, which is arguably the most important thing a person will ever possess. That is how you meet people, move up the ladder, aquire contacts, etc. Sure, they may be smart, but if they are totally off-the-wall weird with no friends and they smell bad, who the hell wants to hire them?

And in reference to an above post, Texas does not have teachers unions. Also, it's not the teachers fault that parents provide absolutly no support to the education or raising of their child, and put all responsibility on the teacher now. It's no wonder they are starting to crack. Parents are the reason kids are not active and loosing weight, not studing, not learning english (problem here in Texas), not passing tests, etc. The teachers are doing a great job for the resources provided and the responsibilities required.

Naw man - it's all the teachers fault. What impact could home life possibly have?

Problem lies with the teachers. Teachers should under no circumstance let students cheat. Blame the system if you want, but teachers are part of the problem in the equation.

"the most common reason for homeschooling today is to provide the "child with a better education" (48.9 percent), as compared with "religious reasons" (38.4 percent).

"In 2001, homeschooled SAT-takers had higher scores than the SAT-taking population as a whole, with homeschooled students averaging 568 on the verbal test (out of a possible 800) and 525 on the math, compared with 506 verbal and 514 math for the national average of all SAT test-takers." Obviously CapnKirk's lack of knowledge on this subject comes from his political stance rather than his source of education. But I'll do the math for him anyhow.

Homeschooled Verbal: 13% higher scores
Homeschooled Math: 2% higher scores.

Stanford good enough for you?
Homeschooled students are impressing top colleges in other ways, too. Says former Stanford niversity admissions officer Jonothan Reider: "The distinguishing factor [for admissions selection] is intellectual vitality. These kids have it." Indeed, Stanford has been so impressed with its homeschooled applicants that its admissions office began tracking homeschooled students in 1999 to learn more about them

How about Harvard?
But what about Rosie Lawler after Princeton turned her down? She's another
homeschooling success story: Lawler now is a junior at Harvard.

More indicators of the blinders. So Bill Cosby earned one? Martha Raye? What exactly have they done for our country? Jesse Jackson? Julia Child? Doris Day? Rita Moreno? Arnold Palmer? Estee Lauder? Dave Thomas? Where's the beef? bahahahaha!

The truth is that leftists like CaptnKirk hate homeschooling and private schools because it erodes their power base - both the politcally powerful teachers unions as well as secularism teachings. So they freely revert to the tactics of the KKK freely by stereotyping large and growing segments of the population. Hatred and intolerance has a new name - it's called liberalism. Only now it isn't the color of your skin, but your politcal beliefs, how you vote, where you live, or how much money you have.

Texas Education Agency to review testing security - AP via CNN

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The state education agency is launching an effort to catch cheating on standardized tests, officials announced Monday.

Officials will hire an outside expert to review security measures and build a tracking system to monitor test scoring irregularities that could signal cheating.

"We have zero tolerance for cheating," Texas Education Agency commissioner Shirley Neeley said in a statement released before a news conference.

The changes are in response to a Dallas Morning News investigation that found strong evidence that educators at nearly 400 schools statewide helped students cheat on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. The newspaper study identified schools whose test scores swung wildly from poor to stellar.

TEA's announcement breaks with a previous policy of trusting districts to police themselves. TEA officials had said they investigated cheating allegations only when a district requested it or when they received credible eyewitness evidence of cheating.

Neeley reminded educators of the consequences of cheating on the TAKS test, which could lead to the revocation of a teaching license and up to 10 years in prison since falsifying testing documents is a third-degree felony. . .
