If you believe that special election results are harbingers of future election results you will be happy to learn that the average special election swing has been hugely in favor of the Democrats. By your own logic the special election results of the last 18 months ARE fantastic news for the Democrats!

The average special election swing across the country has been somewhere around 13 points in favor of the Democrats. If you think this special election is good news for Republicans in Texas, that means good news for Democrats almost everywhere. How fun for us!

Not true, there have been a number of special elections since 2016 where the swing has been towards Republicans. The overwhelming majority have been towards Democrats but not all.

No worries. It was reading comprehension fail on my part. I didn't realize this was for Texas State Senate. I was thinking of Congressional special elections which have all swung blue since Trump took office. State is a different story but the trend clearly holds.

San Antonio native here, beating Pete Gallego is about as impressive as someone with both legs beating a field of one legged opponents in a foot race. Recent Democratic rep was convicted and removed from his seat, the natural reaction is to swing support to the other party. Things will be back to normal when the next normal election cycle rolls around.

Winning a local special election in Texas probably won't extrapolate to victory at a national level in November. There's no reason to think it might. If it doesn't happen this year then it'll probably happen in 2020 after the electorate has even more time to get sick of GOP shit.
