Ahhh

The county handles it here. Roads are cleared based on volume of traffic, not income. Matter of fact when things are bad, they will leave side streets unplowed on purpose to keep speed and traffic down. But then you get on a main road and they are pretty clear.

But we deal with this for 4 or 5 months a year. We have the system down pretty well.

How much ice do y'all usually get? How often do you get several inches of solid ice.

I lived in Sweden for 26 years, there's a little bit of snow and ice there to sometimes. I now live in Crowley, south of Fort Worth by the 35, the amount of dumb drivers is amazing.

Typically two or three days a year....and it is only usually an inch or so...

I have lived in Dallas since 1987 and this is definitely the worst ice we have had since I have been here.

This is the first time it lasted more than a day and a half. Usually by the afternoon of the 2nd day, the ice has melted and everything is getting back to normal....We have had 3 days of crappy roads (the street in front of my house has been a solid sheet of ice since Friday) but since the sun is now out, I can actually see the concrete now...

Are you asking how much ice usually falls out of the sky?

We call it freezing rain. Salt trucks go out and salt as much as they can beforehand, so we don't see nearly the amount that it would be if they didn't. Plus we have more people driving on it at higher speeds since we are used to it, so the roads thaw out quicker.

As always when Southern states talk about snow and ice conditions I would like to see pictures so I can chuckle at what is considered an icy road.

freezing rain is a huge PITA. I hate driving in it.

they are just not used to it like those of us in the North.

2 inches in some states is grounds for a state of emergency. Here it takes about a meter to be declared an emergency.

The only thing that gets treated as an emergency is widespread white outs. If its falling all nice and fluffy, no one cares. If the wind is blow 50MPH and making it impossible to see, they will start closing highways.

I'm not sure if I have a point... more so just find what some people call bad ice and snow conditions amusing.

Not sure why it is amusing...if people in an area are not accustomed to the conditions of another area, just exactly what are they supposed to do/think?

The situations could easily be reversed where those areas be very uncomfortable if the temperatures reach the 90's while in the summer here, it will be in the 100's from July to September...

I was in California (Orange County area) for work this past September and they were having pretty big heat wave and it was the big story in the news for them but that kind of weather is normal here.

If that is funny to you, then so be it...

its fun for us Northern Folks to pick on you about but damn dangerous if you are in it and not prepared. Stay home, stay safe, watch some Netflix.

In a week you will have sunshine and we will still be picking ice off our dingleberries.

Amusing like when it gets up to 85F or something and everyone up North claims that certain death is mere seconds away.

Down South we are out mowing the yard whens its 110F

WOW this weekend was a nightmare. I have pics and stories that I'll post in a bit.

What a freaking disaster/ Fort Worth by far got the worst. I spent Friday night in Wylie/Garland area, wasns't too bad. GB turn pike was horrible(2.5 hours) to drive from Wylie to Fort Worth.

Definitely never doing that again.

See, don't listen to me....

Mostly, there's a few bad spots on some roads but my drive was fine except for one bridge (was taking back roads). There's a few highways closed on certain overpasses and a couple school districts closed but not too many.

yea....be careful on bridges and overpasses. That's where black ice likes to hang out. Doing spinnies on there wouldn't be fun at all.

Some bridges are still terrible with several inches of deeply rutted ice on them. No fun at all :/

I spent 17 hours in the car on the 8th. Got off of Carnival Pride in Baltimore in the AM. Then spent about 1 hour travelling 25 miles. Then another hour to go 1 mile on the interstate... eventually a huge tow truck passed us, and then like 20 mins later, the road started to move. We got off to pee and had lunch. Then we finally got to PA. I drove through PA, OH, and IN only stopping for pee, gas, and once again for dinner. Then drove through Chicago area and made it home by about 4am.

Fiance was with, but I didn't have her do any of the driving.

We saw some pretty crappy conditions in the mountains N and NW of Baltimore. Multiple interstates were closed, other roads were blocked by pileups at bottoms of hills.... overall was miserable...

Anyhow, that was the slowest 770 miles EVER... though we did finally pick up the pace to 70+ in OH....
