Text received by me - Missile Inbound to Hawaii Seek Shelter Immediately

I got a text message on my cell phone about an inbound missile to Hawaii and then the shitstorm hit with family and relatives asking me if I got the same message and what should we do, where's the nearest shelter and all this with me grabbing my dig out bag and getting ready to head for the hills and telling the wifey to get the car started while I went for the batteries in the frige'.

And then I get the news on MSNBC via our Rep Tulsi Gabbard that it's a false alarm.

I thought the shit just got real.

Glad everything is alright with you. That isn't a good thing to see and the conspiracy theorist side of me thinks that it was an intentional test to see how the public would react to such a warning. With the absence of Civil Defense drills and maintenance of shelters people just don't give such a thing much thought.

Thanks for your concern. Yep, a million things ran through my head as I was getting ready to abandon the house and seek shelter.

Took me awhile to realize that there were no sirens blaring like what I've been hearing for the last couple of months as Civil Defense started their "nuclear threat" coded siren sequence.

But damn, what a wake up call, huh?

I got the Verizon version that had more info in the message. What's interesting is that my wifey who shares the same plan with me never got any kind of alert message at all.

I just got a call from work telling me to get down there and help reverse the procedures that were triggered when the missile alert went out.

The after effects of the alert are going to ripple for quite some time.

If it was a real missile there would be nothing you could do. You're screwed. Not only will you most likely die, your death will be slow and excruciating unless you were lucky enough to be within 1500 meters or so of the blast hypocenter. Your skin would be scorched off and you'll go blind and deaf but still be alive, only to die a few hours or days later due to a combination of burns, radiation sickness, and dehydration.

It's too bad conservatives had to elect Trump. We never had to fear this kind of stuff under Obama or any other president. Now we have a mentally deranged moron with nukes tweeting threats to a dictator with nukes who has already threatened Hawaii. Trump doesn't care tho because Mar a Largo is so far from north korea and the west coast and Hawaii area Dem states anyway. He'll be on air force 1 tweeting and eating cheeseburgers while millions of Americans die one day.

This sort'a reminds me of those days long ago when I used go out and hunt down stegosaurus for the weekly family meal where I recall our own military was conducting chem/bio warfare tests on the local population where they'd fly upwind from the islands and release aerosol versions of flu virus to see how the local population reacted to it. Never really thought to research it but it was fairly common knowledge among us elders.

Please, don't play innocent here. North Korea has been working on a nuclear weapons program for a while, but there's no question that Trump has been antagonizing the country in a way that Obama never did. It's one thing to be aware of a dangerous bull; it's another thing to wave your cape in front of it.

Forgive me for being blunt, but the proposition that N Korea would engage in first use of nuclear weapons against the US is completely absurd. I mean, just right out of the wild blue yonder. To entertain that notion for more than a few seconds is to have been chumped by the fear mongers.

It's happened before, of course. I remember the stupid duck & cover drills from the second grade, even an evacuation drill.
