Please. I blame the govt of Hawaii for playing into the fear mongering with sirens & test alerts every month for over a year. I blame the Trump admin & the media for puffing the whole thing up as if Doom! is somehow imminent.

Believing the FUD renders people less rational & that's exactly the way our right wing wants 'em to be.
Then don't blame the people for their fear. It has very much appeared that you have been blaming the people of Hawaii for being afraid after receiving that text.

The small town I grew up in had one of those blast horn things. It went off a couple of times when I was a kid (I never did find out why) but to hear it was intense to say the least.

All I'm saying is that people need to be aware that they have blind spots where propagandists can reach past their cognitive defenses & cause them to react at a gut level. They'll play you the way that the pinball wizard plays the silver ball if you let them.

Reason more & emote less. Keep a grip on your own headset.

I not necessarily disagreeing with you jhhnn.
But I have to imagine the combination of a "shithole" president, an infantile feud between two crazies and an Alert text (with no added fear mongering) would be powerful for a place that is within reach.

There's no reason to believe that Hawaii is actually "in reach" other than fear mongering. There's even less reason to think that the DPRK would attack other than in retaliation.

Think it through. Don't let them get to you is all I have to say.

What do you figure the chances of North Korea being able to accurately target a nuclear warhead for Hawaii?

It's not fear mongering if people are just naturally cowards. And just naturally morons.

Am I reading this correctly? Cowards and morons for being afraid after an Alert to an attack? Does this mean if someone pointed something that could kill you at you, you'd stand there with your chest puffed out and your fists on your hips? What a striking picture that'd make. Ya know, if anyone ever got to see it. Stoic!

But you can picture the heroic stand-off he intends to one day have with a missile right? Man's got balls! Big ones!... due to some sort of condition also affecting his brain?

A bit of old news by now. Everyone is safe. The "little rocket man" is fast asleep.
Still.... A little un-nerving to think if this were real, you'd get a fricken text warning?
I mean, thats like getting a text from the doc YOUR GF IS PG, or from your boss YOU'RE FIRED MAN. or from your mom YOU WERE ADOPTED, or another from your mom FYI DAD'S GAY, or from your gf I'M JUST REALIZING I'M GAY, or from your sister MOM DAD AND WERE JUST KILLED IN A CRASH.
Well, whether the above would be worse than a nuclear incoming missile is a toss up, I guess.
But in any case, a text???? Really? Is the what we have become? Allowed technology to do to us?
Guess this is the reality of modern day technology. A text of impending doom. Fatal certainty.
And you have only minutes to react. To cope. To take it all in.
Geez, that hardly gives you time to crap your pants.
Do you run? Do you panic? Do you pray? Do you hide? Do you jump off the nearest bridge?
Or.... do you crap your pants and let god take care of the rest?

In my day as a kid we seen those AIR RAID SHELTER signs from the CD (civil defense dept) with an arrow pointing. Usually to the basement of some department store, government building, school house basement.
Now in 2018 those signs should be replaced by IN CASE OF NUCLEAR ATTACK: MEN'S RESTROOM RIGHT -----> , WOMEN'S RESTROOM LEFT <-------

Welcome to the new lefty world. We can totally send out fake emergency messages and then blame Trump. I hope someone is being investigated for making terrorist threats to people of HI.

I think the real issue here is that you need to remember that guy that would never be playing golf while president. Wonder what he was doing when this false alert went out, terrifying everyone in HI? And his response?

Apparently, it was plausible before 1/20/2017. Are you that far into the Liberal cult that common sense has been trained out of you?

You have to be some kind of willfully stupid to think that 2 years ago, an alert like that would have the same effect as it does today--with two titanic idiots threatening to obliterate the world simply because they dropped their sippy cups.

The threat of a nuclear strike has never been as serious and as plausible since around 1987 or so. It's a simple matter of living in the world today, paying attention to the factual information that is freely available to you, to understand that this mistake today exists in a completely different world than it would have 2 years ago, when a highly capable, intelligent, measured individual lead the free world, unlike this unstable pre-teen that desperately tries to maintain his current 2nd fiddle status on the world stage.

They demonstrated ICBMs with a range of all US mainland. And you still think hitting middle of the Pacific is fear mongering.
WTF?

Did you miss 2017?

The notion that the DPRK would engage in a nuclear first strike requires us to believe that they're suicidal, that they'll throw away their lives & all they've built since the 50's in a fit of pique & delusion. The power differential between us & them in that regard is simply overwhelming. They know it all too well.

Beyond that, it's easy to over estimate their capabilities, anyway. Like I said earlier, they haven't demonstrated the ability to put a re-entry vehicle down range, let alone hit anything with it. Hawaii is also a poor choice of target, anyway, considering that it would be a lot easier to hit the urban sprawl of the bay area or LA. Following the great circle route they're no further from the DPRK than Hawaii. The metro complex of Seattle is even closer. I don't see any of them getting goofy like Hawaii.

What's going on in Hawaii is the equivalent of the civil defense hysteria of the 50's. The govt of Hawaii does their citizens a great disservice by playing into it. They need to work to quell irrational fear, not to enhance it.

Fear is the mind killer.

How about putting the blame where it belongs? You have several individuals that have entered an alternate reality where anything and everything is on the table in order to discredit and remove a duly elected president, and they have created fake stories and induced a mass hysteria into large groups of individuals such as yourself. So not only does someone not get punished for bypassing several safeguards in order to issue a fake missile alert, they are almost rewarded because HI is now hiring another person in order to have 2 people do the job of 1. Since this person wasn't fired, it tells me that members of the HI government are ok with fake mass hysteria as long as it can be blamed on Trump.

Has someone questioned the legitimacy of Trump's birth certificate or something?

I wish you were an interesting fellow, brandonbull, but unfortunately utter denial of abject truth is becoming more the norm in your shrinking social sphere these days.

Fear mongering takes two forms. First off, it is the lexicon of deceivers & hidden agendas like the Trumpublicans. Be afraid! You need strong leadership to deal with this strong threat! We'll protect You! More Military!

The strutting & chest puffing gets 'em every time, particularly if they're already sucked into the personality cult of Trumpism.

And then there are just people who fall for it & perpetuate it.

I mean, yeh, sure, there's a grain of truth at the bottom of that huge pile of bullshit, but that's all it is. The threat of a nuclear first strike from the DPRK is so remote as to deserve no consideration whatsoever from the citizens of this country. It's only real in the imagination.

Kee-rist. It's like the whole country is running on broken bullshit detectors.
