Text way too small in 1440p! 4k must be like reading fine print?

Hey all, so i still haven't gotten used to the tiny text @ 1440p and i've noticed after a few months my eye sight has actually deteriorated! I'm sitting only 2-3 feet from the monitor, have DPI scaling set to 149%. I tried all kinds of things to get the text legible (Win7 DPI options, but its too blurry when enlarged!) but Steam, most games, and programs like Evernote, winamp, and many others have tiny text that makes reading a pain in the butt.

I've read that companies don't really care cause the market of people that have more than 1080p are in the minority. So, i can only imagine how tiny the text is in 4k displays, and the industry is talking about how this is gonna replace 1080??? I imagine text would be completely unreadable with 4k?

Have any of you got your 1440+ monitors to display text well and if so how? cheers and thanks for reading!

I got a U2713HM myself.

Text is fine for me. The DPI should normally work fine. I think its improved in Windows 8 and 8.1 as well.

If you got problems with the text, and not sitting very far. Maybe it would be a good time for you to get your eyes checked out. Just in case.

27" 1440p has text of same size than 20" 1080p if not larger. If you are having trouble viewing it you're either sitting far away from screen or have really bad sight.
Also Windows 8.1 (I'm assuming you're using windows) has pretty good 200% scaling or so I hear.

I'm sitting about 2-3 feet from the monitor, using Windows 7 with DPI scaling @ 149%. Any higher and the mouse and icons become way too big in relation to text. Even with that, text in Steam and some games is way too small (anno 2070 is one game with no DPI scaling, and text is tiny!!!!).

I actually would prefer smaller text on my 27inch 1440 dell. I think a 28inch 4k would be perfect!

Must be your eye sight? I have never had any issues in any games with text being too small, or steam/winamp.

Sometimes I find text on web pages too small, but you can zoom in very easy. Quickest zoom option is to hold ctrl and use your mouse wheel to zoom in or out. Other then that, I have never had any issues with text being too small on my 1400p.

Ctrl+mouse wheel up. Try it. You will enjoy it.

You can also change the scale of the desktop, icons and all the normal Windows stuff by right clicking the desktop and going to "Personalization"->"Display". The only problem is dealing with some apps which do not adjust to these things. For most consumer stuff, this isn't an issue.

Windows 8.1 auto adjusts my text to be readable. It can of course over ride this. Its quite nice.

I did not like reading text on the U2711. The AG coating was too aggressive. I have no issues on my U2713hm, though.

DPI scaling in Windows 7 is terrible. It's much improved in 8, but everyone hates 8 of course.....

Lol this.

I'm using 125% on chrome right now to read this site. Don't have to, just makes it easier on the eyes though when I'm sitting on the couch.

hmmmm, yes guess its time to move on to Windows 8.1 if its that much better. The text in Anno 2070 is 4 font! its not legible 2-3 ft from the game, and Steam is also terrible, the windowsDPI doesn't work on it and Valve doesn't care for people with 1080p+ resolutions cause we're "a minority" according to their survey.

lower the brightness... IPS monitors can be very bright and burn your retinas = make your eye sight worst... most monitors out of the box are over 200nits... D:

I was going to post this same thing. You can also do "Ctrl +" and "Ctrl -" to increase or decrease text size.
