I don't think i've had this much fun in a multi player game since the original Counterstrike. TF2 is an absolute BLAST to play and the character classes are extremely well balanced. Do yourself a favor and throw halo 3 on ebay and pick up The Orange Box.

Hell, don't even get me started on Portal!

Isn't TF2 restricted to 8v8 and also experiencing lag problems?

Damn you, I'm on the fence about that game and I really don't need you giving me a reason to buy it.

Are there any deals to get it below retail for 360? I've seen deals for the PC version, but not 360.

The 360 version is restricted to 8v8 with lag problems. The real issue here is that a cable modem's upload cant handle 15 clients. TF2 also NEEDS at least 8 for a fun game. Halo can be played with 3 or 4.

The PC version runs perfectly BTW

I've had plenty of 6v6 games that were lag free and a lot of fun.

mugs, Toys R US is supposed to have a buy two get one free sale starting tomorrow on console games. You could always ebay the two other games for $80 and essentially get Orange Box for $40.

It doesn't need that many for a fun game... that's totally up to each person. TF2 only has lag problems with the max 8v8 but I'm having a blast with just 4v4 on 2fort. Haven't tried a lot of the other maps but I think 2fort works fine with that.

lol i guess it is up to each person. i usually avoid servers with only 8 on a side or less. seems so empty on most of the maps. i guess 2fort would be okay

it can handle 16 on things like Big Team Battle in Halo 3, why would TF2 be any different from a tech standpoint?

is the OP talking about the 360 or PC version?

I've heard the 360 version has a lot of issues online.

I agree with the OP. TF2 is so much fun. The only thing limiting it is the 6 maps....they need more...and the lag. 12 and even 14 usually seems ok but 16 is usually messed up really bad. Maybe it is something with their network code. Halo seems to handle 16 much better. Either way I have had alot of fun with it.

Also..Portal owns

I have the 360 version but i'm sure the PC version is EVEN better!

The only issue is the lag in 16 player games and i'm sure Valve will have a fix for that soon enough. For now, 12 player games are a blast.

I didnt mean 8v8... thats a bit crowded for my taste. 4v4 is the minimum for me. Anyway, the TF2 maps seem to all have a specific playercount in mind. Get much below 12 and the maps are too empty. The real strength of TF(C or 2) is the complex interaction between all the different classes. Too few people in the game make some classes rather useless. What good is a medic when you only have 2 people on offense? How the hell can someone be effective with a spy in a map that empty? The upper limit seems to be around 20 players. Any higher and its constanly turning into a spammy stalemate.

I think I'll get in on that deal... Orange Box, PGR4 and Skate for $40 apiece isn't bad.

uhhh or just buy both? TF2 and Halo 3 are very different games even though they are both FPS. I get a different type of satisfaction from each.

For the love... I went to one TRU last night, no Orange Box. I went to one at lunch today, no Skate. Orange Box is not available online right now. Bastards.

Just buy another "filler game", return the filler game to the other store (unopened) for the game that the original store did not have.

You need to get PGR4 though... it's lame seeing no friends on the charts when I beat a race.

Yeah, that's what I did... I picked up DiRT in place of Skate, and I'll probably exchange it later. I thought about doing that before, but a lot of stores these days don't really do "exchanges" anymore, they do a return and then you have to go buy the item you want in with your refunded money. I figured that'd be a hassle with a deal like this, but the TRU dude said it would work.

Yeah a friend of mine said he bought the 3-for-2 deal at Toys 'R' Us (for the PS3) and was just going to trade the one game for something better. He said he had 45 days to do it too.

DiRT isn't too bad. I still have yet to play the full version of Sega Rally Revo though... gotta beat PGR4 first. Let me tell you... PGR4 is just so imba with the bikes it's not even funny. I spank the hell out of cars when they put me against 3 cars and I'm on a bike. Even wrecking is fine, you accelerate so fast it don't matter!

I haven't ready any of this thread nor played Halo 3 and I will agree 100% even though I play it on the PC. Can't be much different on 360 aside from the controls.

I agree. I just got TF2 yesterday and was tearing it up. I also have Halo 3 and have enjoyed it for the last couple weeks, but TF2 is at a whole different level. I think I just enjoy the control of the mouse and keyboard plus silky smooth frame rates of PC. Also that the game itself is awesome helps But they are both great games. GOTY candidates for sure.

You are correct.

I was about ready to buy the game when I started reading about the above problems AND DAMN VALVE ONLY LETS YOU PLAY ONE PERSON ONLINE PER 360! Talk about lame. Yet another game I cannot play with my friends while they visit. Valve will not get my money... Looks like I can save for CoD4

To me, the lag issues has been on and off. Pretty much on a game by game basis. I have been playing Halo 3 more though, and it will probably last the longest for me.

I played TF2 for the first time tonight... I donno what to think. I kind of prefer the all-out mayhem of standard deathmatch more than this team and classes stuff. Although it was fun getting lots of headshots with the Sniper.

Valve sent the lag fix patch to microsoft last week for cert so we'll probably get it this week.

I heard an interview with TF2 developers and Major Nelson today and there is going to be alot of additional maps and downloadable stuff for TF2. There is also going to be a "significant addition to the gameplay that takes TF2 in a whole new direction". Probably a new mode or something but they wouldn't say exactly what.

They basically said what was released was just basic and they were working on alot more stuff that just wasn't ready for release.

One thing I didn't like about it was that this map we were playing only had one way toward the "flag" in CTF. Because of this, all you had were engineers setting up turrets in the room where the only staircase was that went up. No one scored until the sudden death where we just rushed them and they had no turrets set up yet.
