Yeah, like making any other flamethrower practically obsolete. I'm surprised they didn't implement the flare gun explosion; I want to flare-gun jump!

Backburner has airblast, but it uses 1/4 of your ammo each time, so you only get 4 with a full clip. It badly needed it though, pyros without airblast were a LOT less useful to their team. And Degreaser is still the best flamethrower by far, it's not even close. The weapon switching speed outweighs everything else.

While this looks like a good update, there's a few things to note:

Valve started the TF2 Beta a while back as a way to test potential changes to weapons/classes/maps with thousands of players providing feedback before releasing them to the official game. The thing is, they didn't listen to anyone's feedback regarding this update. All these stat changes were literally copy/pasted from the Beta (including having the Loch n Load one shot 4/9 classes, a beta change that was almost unanimously disagreed upon).

Valve is championing the fact that this is a "hatless update" as if we should be proud of them for this one time not focusing on a shameless promotion or releasing more and hats that add nothing to the game itself and just boost revenue. Performance and stat updates are expected to take priority (which is how TF2 was before cosmetics and that whole crowd came around).

They nerfed a lot of melee weapons (-25% damage) and gave them all random crits to compensate. A lot of people were really hoping Valve would slowly reduce the amount of random crits in the game as the playerbase evolved and grew up, but now we're going backwards.

Make no mistake, I'm grateful that Valve still gives a shit about TF2, but it's become too much of a testbed for Steam, DLC, and other games.

TF2 is dead to me. I sucked badly enough when it was new, but at least I could sort of compete. Now with all the new items, hat enthusiasts, and assorted crap, there's no way I'll ever install it again.

I used to be a such an avid TF2 player but other games have finally started to take it's place in my library. It's good that they're releasing another update with actual content above cosmetic changes, but not if it creates the problems Red Storm has enumerated.

I'm assuming the backburner still crits from behind? I think I may try this out now. Even though the weapon switch speed will be missed, I find myself being able to get behind players a lot of times. I was just never willing to give up my air blast before.

I like the degreaser quite a bit (the quick change is awesome). I've never really used the Backburner due to lack of airblast, but maybe I'll try it out with that addition. Been playing a bit more recently and honestly all of the new-fangled stuff has not changed the core of the game; it still feels pretty much the same to me.

Well, it looks like the update brought some issues for me. Haven't had a crash in this game for over a year and now after 10-15min of play I get hard lock. Happened 3 times in a row so far which means I'll wait to see if it's me or an issue with the update.

Steam just downloaded another TF2 update, perhaps your problem got fixed.

I think you misunderstand their intentions. Servers have had the ability to turn off all random crits if they so desired for ages now. But if they did so, weapons where the primary downside was "No random crits" became unbalanced - essentially, encouraging playing with random crits on as if you didn't, several weapons became considerably more powerful by comparison. Rather then an encouragement to play with random crits, this is a way to prevent playing without them from being broken.



That said, awful patch. Stability issues abound. Missing textures. A completely unnecessary and nonsensical nerf of the degreaser, and still no fix for the damn banner bug that screws spies over. A goddamn demoman buff and still no sign of nerf stickies have needed since day 1.

Yeah, this is why I uninstalled TF2 and all other Valve games. I've played all the single player ones and I never play the MP ones, and they update CONSTANTLY. I appreciate ongoing support but it's a bit ridiculous.

It's society. Complaining is way more fun. I still play regularly, and have just as much fun as I ever did. Maybe I don't take a video game so serious, that's probably it.
