I played CS for many years, but this game seems very different.

I played for couple hours last night mainly using Pyro and Demoman.

I tried playing as the Spy, but I had no clue how to cloak, disguise, etc.

Any good resources that I can read somewhere? A lot of the wiki sites don't seem to have much details.

i wouldnt recommend any of those classes as starting classes. demoman is really good though once you know how to use him. the game is different from CS in that its not aim based (other than sniper). you need to try to use your classes special features to your advantage. i dont know exactly what tips to give other than playing it

Demoman is a great class to learn with if you want easy points. Spam spam and more demo spam. In CP maps just cover the point with stickies and blow em when the other team shows up. After a while you will start to understand the strengths and weaknesses of very class as you play against them. Then start branching out. The game is a blast whatever class you choose to play.

For spy, disguise is 4, then the number for the class you want to cloak as. Right click is cloak. The watch will let you know when the cloak runs out. Knife backstab = instakill. I'm not very good but I enjoy running behind enemy lines and stabbing.

Edit: Sorry i meant disguise =4, not cloaking

This video is an awesome explanation of the Spy class. My Spy game improved immediately upon watching it. It's mostly some (in retrospect) common sense tips that aren't immediately obvious.

i suck with demoman. i just started playing and found it easiest to learn with the soldier...now i'm fairly comfortable with all except the spy and the scout.

Spy is one of the tougher classes, I believe. Pyro, Medic, and Soldier are all fairly easy to get into.

Use Scout if you want more twitch FPS play. Nothing like being the fastest character + shotgun.

I've run into a couple who are f'in surgical with that scattergun. My reactions aren't good enough to make the most of the class, so I reserve it for infrequent Intel runs.

Pyro/Demoman are pretty self explanatory. You can get kills fairly easy with them You will learn the other classes from watching people play. Get familiar with the game first then play the more difficult classes.

There are some decent videos on Youtube that give pointers for each class.

Personally, I found it helpful to stick to the Soldier and Scout while I was learning to play, and now I've started branching out to the other classes. (Haven't played in the last couple weeks due to it being crunch time at work combined with being sick.)

As a Scout, use your speed to your advantage. You'd be surprised how often you can take down a Heavy if you can flank him and attack from behind. A couple shotgun blasts or bats to the head and he's dead pretty quickly. Also, get used to double-jumping and use it to your advantage. You can end up in places where the other team isn't expecting to see you. Keep your distance from Pyros, as their flamethrower will do a number on you since your max health is low. Demomen can be a threat if you take a grenade to the face, but once you get used to moving and dodging it's not as bad. You're not well equipped to take down sentry guns, but you're fast enough that you might be able to shoot the Engineer before he builds it. If you're at close range and you empty your scattergun, don't be afraid to switch to the bat, especially against enemies like the Sniper and Medic who aren't expecting to be mixing it up.

Also, when you're a Scout don't waste the teleporters. Leave them for slower characters like Heavies.

And don't use teleporters if you're a Spy. The glowiness stays with you for about 15 seconds when you're invisible. It still cracks me up every time I see the glowy outline of a cloaked spy sneaking around and I kill it. The same person over and over. You think they would learn.

I'd start with soldier. Probably the easiest class to get into. With soldier keep your crosshairs low on the ground Thresh style. Shoot the wall if the guy your attacking is standing near one. Learn to switch to shotty to finish off people.

Demoman:
Learn to use the stickies. Throw them out near a guy blow them up. Repeat. Profit. Sticky grenades are awesome against engineers/sentry guns. Two or three can take out any of those sentry clusters people like to set up.

Sniper:
Play qwtf. They nerfed the sniper class so bad in this game. He still kills it's just not what he should be.

HWGuy:
If you know how to spray the m4/ak then you know how to work this gun.

Scout:
Use the little pistol from distance. Sometimes you get a crit and do massive damage. Then you switch up to shotty from med-short range.

Pyro:
Learn to circle strafe around people.

Maybe your just used to MTF with snapshot insta-kills, regTF still took a headshot or two maybe three to kill a hwguy. Sniper seems the same in TF2 just can't FOV change like you used to.

FOV is my biggest gripe. But seriously in regular QWTF how often did you see a heavy on offense?

But for TF2 they took away the quickswitch and added in that delay. That sucks. You can't strafe shoot as easily. You have to snap shoot more. Before that patch I could strafe in snipe. Quick switch to my pistol. Zoom right back in while strafing. Snipe. Repeat. But now it's strafe in zoom. Snipe. Zoom out lag while strafing. Zoom in. snipe. Makes it harder to snipe 1 vs 2+.

you can fast switch weapons in options on TF2 under advanced instead of mousewheeling the weapon and then selecting, fastswitch will just change on the fly. Seems a bit more balanced with the forced zoom, but you can snapshot unzoomed with full strafe speed, only gripe i have is no crosshair is available and it's an uncharged shot but with a bit of practice i've gotten better with it. It's a pain having to scan the entire field while zoomed in but, i've adjusted and unzoom and zoom in when an nmy is in my POV and follow up with a headshot, most of the time it's a crit.

I've seen plenty of HWGUY's on the offense on MTF (20mm)/RegTF(spray)/CUTF because bunnyhopping was possible whereas TF2 you can't. BH would have made TF2 a bit more interesting if speedcaps were in place for each class like fortress forever w/quake style physics.

TFC one full body shot and one weak shot killed a HW one full body shot killed anyone else. The sniper rifle knocked back a lot too so it was generally easy to get that second shot in because you knew where they were going to be.

I was a damn good sniper in tfc people would often accuse me of hacking and such. TF2 you have to be beyond that to just be effective. You have to be plain old godly.

TFC had a dull feeling to it for some reason, maybe just the realistic skins or maybe the maps felt crammed.. QWTF was just madness, MTF specifically with spike traps, mag mines, airstrikes, proxy grens felt very fast paced.
