I'm very surprised that Valve couldn't just hard-code those achievements and the new weapons.
achievement_unlock_all is the command. And I hope a lot of people use it too, achievements as a means to dictate how much content you can have is an affront to gaming. The sooner everyone unlocks this stuff the sooner the game will go back to not being a medic-fest (due to the OCD players going for achievements) and the sooner Valve will realize that tying gameplay/fun to a achievements is a ludicrously bad idea.

How is it an affront to gaming? Hasn't this been done over and over throughout gaming history? Having to play through multiple times to get unlocked endings or content, or just having to play on the hardest difficulty to get certain things has been going on forever.

I like the addition of the medic achievements pack and it makes me happy when I get one of the new achievements. Should Valve have added achievements for all the other classes at the same time? Probably, but things will settle down very shortly once the initial rush is over and to be honest, I do not recall seeing more than 5 medics on a team at any given time and we even ended up with only 1 a few times.

I really think people are overreacting here, or maybe they are just playing on servers where this is a problem, but if that's the case, I can assure you there are servers out there where it is not an issue.

I'm just curious to see how much of an imbalance it's going to be with the new unlockable weapons and how it might affect the player base if servers are able to block the new weapons and revert to the previous.

I find out that with 5-6 medic on a 12 team almost = a win....
(cp to 1-2 that was before the update)

But the command ruin the fun/effort as a reward.
Last night I went into a server that both teams sit next to each other just so that can "play" and get the unlock... I rather get it thro a real game.

Agreed. I only played for a couple of hours last night and am one achievement away from getting the first unlockable. I didn't even play Medic the entire time, I changed to other classes if we were overloaded with Medcs.

I used the hack and I'm not ashamed. Some of those achievements are ridiculously hard and you are very unlikely to get in a normal game. The only way to do some is to coordinate 4-5 players in certain tasks...just a waste of time if you ask me. Valve should make all the weapons available to everyone. They've done a good job balancing the new abilities out (ex: the new kritzkrieg = unlimited critical hits, but you are NOT invincible...Your medic can die within a second of hitting it...so it balances out)

Valve should release everything for everyone and keep the abilities balanced out as they have always done.

Well, so far I've really enjoyed the new map and game type. And with all these medics running around focusing on their achievements, I've been having a field day as a spy. Mmm, backstabilicious.

Valve is eventually going to reset the achievements for everyone that has done this, they're not the type of company to just let something like that go. I play medic as my primary class, and I haven't used the console command because I'm not gonna risk starting over once they hit the reset button.

I played briefly last night while my friend was playing GTA 4. The new map seems cool. The medic achivements are beyond annoying. We're going to add 40 new achievements simultaneously, all for a single class, that offer new weaponry? What the fuck? I was playing on several 32+ person servers, the FEWEST medics I saw on a team was 8. That's ridiculous. Basically, it was an uber fest, where a team could be invincible virtually 100 percent of the time through any semblance of coordination. It was exciting, being a soldier, having to rocket jump away from the 12 ubered medics rushing you. That's good gameplay!

Seriously, if you're going to release class specific unlocks, you do all classes at once, not one at a time. It throws the game balance into utter chaos while people try for the unlocks for the next few weeks. If they keep doing it class at a time get ready for pyro month, scoutober and sniperamadan.

I think the servers will adjust, I mean it has only been one day. I'm told the servers can limit the numebr of Medics on at one time and I think many will do so if this Medic overrun continues for any amount of time.

I found a decent server today 24 players Goldrush/Dustbowl no team had more than 5 medics at a time...but considering the maps medics are kinda needed!

It's an affront to gaming because it's a MP FPS. Progress makes sense in a single-player game where there's a story and difficulty construct to maintain, but this isn't a single-player game. It's a multi-player game, achievements are an affront that reward gamers who have no life with better and more weapons, in essence more fun. In order to play the entire game and have as much fun as everyone else, you're supposed to jump through hoops like toy poodles for Valve's own amusement? Bullocks to that I say!

MP FPSs should be about and only about skill, about how good you are compared to everyone else on that server with a completely equal playing field between you. You should never be directly rewarded for playing for long times or doing stupid things, that's against the spirit of these kinds of games and unfair to those people who have lives and dignity. It's as if you get to play baseball with a cork bat after you've played 1000 games, it only serves to ruin the game.

Amen brother! AMEN!!

We should have an equal playing field...with access to all the weapons. Each weapon has it's own pros and cons...so as long as things remain balanced with tradeoffs between the weapons, it's all good.

To that I say that Valve should create two categories of official servers (not adding them, just split the ones they have if they don't have the money to actually add more). The first category as we know, with the achievements "forced" upon the players. The second category with everything unlocked. That way everyone's happy, it's a matter of accommodation.

Finally tried it. Everyone's a medic. Minimum of 5 per team now, even had a swarm during a tie-break, which was surprisingly successful. Once you get over that, meh, it's the same old. Goldrush is good though. Way better than badlands.

So did those that entered the command to get all the achievements end up losing them after the patch? Did Valve do an achievement reset?

I suppose I don't mind either way though...

Valve did a full Medic achievement reset, and in the process learned nothing.

It wasn't a full medic reset. It only affected people who used the unlock all achievements cheat. Everybody else was untouched. Even the ones who only cheated the gun achievements escaped.

As for the actual changes:

Demoman change was good, provides a viable counter tactic to demo chokepoint spam that doesn't involve waiting for uber everytime.

Goldrush is just a meatgrinder on the servers I've played on, though it could be good with the right settings.

Medic achievements are ridiculously poorly designed, to the extent of some of them practically require amazing luck (the lottery version) or enemy collusion. Dozens of medics out there, few of them know what they're doing, and most are essentially useless and desperately trying to unlock weapons that they will never use, since they'll never touch medic again after getting them.

The critzkrieg has some uses, but it's extraordinarily limited and probably won't see much use, if any, once the initial 'Oh, shiny' rush dies down. Ubersaw and Blutsauger are mostly going to result in a lot of dead medics for a while, then they'll fade into irrelevance.

I agree totally with the demoman change being a good one. However I would like them give the demoman like 4 more rounds and I think that would be the perfect amount, I've found myself running out of ammo as a demo when I'm assaulting(NOT spamming) then having to fall back to find ammo....rendering my assault useless...or leaving my teammates short handed.

Goldrush is a really good map but needs a few balancing changes. There are far too many chokepoints and if you get stuck in one it's nearly impossible to break the stalemate mostly because the ways to flank really arent ways to flank at all. Especially on the third stage of the map.
