I know those of you that are involved with projects other than Seti get a little aggravated when you see posts like this one asking for help for your Seti TeAm but we are in a unique situation. For those who may not know the specifics, let me briefly outline why the Seti TeAm is now asking for your help.

Seti At Home in its current configuration is ending in the next month or two. The exact ending date has not been officially announced but it could be any day now. For the past two years we have advanced nicely and are currently the "6th ranked Seti Team in the World". This is no small thing for we are talking about the largest and most prestigious DC project in the world.

During the course of my own participation I have experienced the joy of watching our TeAm pass the likes of:

Forum Hardware.FR Team
Team Art Bell
The Knights Who Say Ni!
Team MacAddict
Sun Microsystems
The Planetary Society
IBM
Compaq Computers
Hewlett Packard

The Compaq and Hewlett Packard Teams combined some time ago and passed us overnight. They are now known as Hewlett-Packard and are ranked #5 in the World ... right above us.

During the last couple of years we have been challenged by Broadband Reports Team Starfire and have actually passed and re-passed each other on several occasions. They are the Seti Team that most nearly matches our own and if you look at a graphical chart you will see our two teams have been traveling in a parallel march upward in the World Team Rankings.

BBR, which is what we call them for short (we are known likewise world-wide as TeAm), has made a commitment to pass us right as Seti At Home - Phase 1" ends and forever have their name emblazoned above ours in the final count. This will be carried forward in Seti History forever. Do you think you would like that?

On January 1st, 2004 BBR sent out the word to all of their respective Distributed Computing Teams to amass their power and help in their effort to pass TeAm AnandTech! Their other DC Teams are responding and they are overtaking us at awesome speed!

I have been hesitant to do the same here on TeAm AnandTech for I know how competitive all of our TeAms are in their respective projects. We have a hard time just keeping our most ardent TeAm Mates from coming to blows over which project "newbies" should run. We need to put that kind of thinking aside for the moment and come together for this important challenge to our Seti TeAm. Last month when BBR made their first big move we got the support of many of our TeAm AnandTech brothers and sisters "without even asking". That was a most un-selfish act and brought tears of pride to my old eyes. What a TeAm we have here ... I am most proud to be a member.

But now the time has come and your Seti TeAm "is" asking for your help!

PLEASE SWITCH ALL AVAILABLE POWER OVER TO SETI. PLEASE DO IT NOW.

Remember this: When S@H-1 ends in the next month or two there will be an awesome amount of power available that will repay you many times over. I do not say this in a frivolous manner. Although we are all free spirits, the concept of diversification and payback to our other TeAms is the feeling and mindset of most of your Seti TeAm Mates. You have my word on that.

Smoke - Nicely worded! After Seti-1 is complete, I plan on using 5 machines for cancer research.

I'm going to talk to my team about moving over to TA for the final days of Seti. Then we need to work on another project, no DC project has been decided on as of yet.

Is there not even a hint when SETI I will end? I mean is there a chance that they say: "OK guys, in a week it's over!" or is it more like "OK guys, in 60 days it's over!"? Did they announce any date when they gonna tell the ending date?

Well said Greg!

I'd pledge my crunching herd to any project out there in trade for them moving to seti now,
so if there's someone who would like to help us out but doesn't want to hurt their own project
long term they could trade their cycles now for mine later.

We did this during RC5-64 & OGR and it worked out well, there's no reason we shouldn't do it again!

Hey...didn't I try to start one of these yesterday?

Very well spoken (typed) Greg. I have a few PC's that I'll throw toward another project when SETI 1 ends....it's in my blood!

I'll be switching my machines over to SETI for the time to come, allthough my dedication is towards F@H.
I sincerely hope we can keep them behind us, and I will try to do my part.

PC's:
P4C 2,8@3,1 (24/7)
Athlon 1200 (Assembling it right now, then 24/7)
PII550 (24/7)
Celeron300A (24/7)
Athlon 1400 (My fathers 2/7)
PII500 (My Fathers 24/7)

Put my secondary machine to work on SETI.

Won't be much production out of a Celery 900, but it is something.

I must keep 2 PC's I put on DPAD there, but will ramp up all I have left here and at work for a last push for SETI. I know we can do it. When SETI is over, DPAD is going to get a hell of a bump up in the rankings.

Go TeAm!!!

And back in the good old pre-v3.03-days, MURC & Anandtech was battling it out...

As for the end of Seti1, my guess is atleast a month from BOINC is released, since a seti-user is "active" if returned anything the last 4 weeks...

On the BOINC-front, the scripts to copy all seti@home users/teams/profiles over is programmed.
While most people was celebrating Christmas, the BOINC-team was hard at work trying to squish some seti-bugs, if not mistaken 4 seti-versions was released between 20. and 30. December. :Q
My guess is atleast one more seti-release to see if the bugs is fixed...

S@H were hoping to release S@H2 in the new year ,presumable they've overshot that but that gives you an idea anyway ,S@H1 is going to be killed 1 mth after S@H2 is publicly released.

Thanks to all those that have already switched ,hopefully we can keep back BBR!

Btw I shall be switching 1 of my 2 home rigs over to DPAD for a while after S@H1 ends ,as for the rest of my fleet that depends what S@H2 is like!

SETI was what I started my addiction on. I have 3 PC's, 2 running D²OL, the 3rd has just been added to DPAD.
I would love to add one of my main rigs to SETI, and ah heck it I think I will
An Athlon XP 1900 is yours until SETI 1 ends.
Just have to set it up
Edit:
I was beta testing BOINC for a while, I gave up
The D²OL team is quite safe in our #1 spot for a while  :wine:

TAndy, what should we do about the race? Since some people changing pc's to Seti,
I don't think we'll be able to give all with the race..

I still have one PC on D²OL, node 455.
That node will stay on D²OL no matter what.
It does screw the race up though.
I want to help fellow TeAmmates but I do want to take part in this race.
The DPAD thing doesn't bother me as it doesn't use any of my main PC's.
Bummer.

Geoff, can we hold off on this race for a while??
