That sucks. I have three processors but only one fully functional MB right now. I have one with leaking caps and another that just won't boot

No, you obviously haven't been paying attention, Engineer. According to certain individuals over there, we're the recruiters. We can only produce bigger numbers than them by recruiting new members with "baggage". Their's is simply solid, steady production, not recruitment!

In the words of Wayne and Garth.... Shaa!

Anyway I know this will not go down easy, but there is a possibility that I am going to loose my work fleet, period! I have had a yo yo relationship as far as this is concerned. The powers that be in my company really waiver on this and this time I fear that they are going to make me pull the plug. I was going to sneakernet the queue to get rid of the web traffic for them, but now it seems that they want me to pull the plug all together. I have a meeting soon to talk about it. We are rolling out some new software that is pretty bandwidth heavy and they feel they need every bit of it. Not a whole lot I can do. Sorry mates! I have kept this sinking ship afloat for as long as I could.

BBR must be the cause...they must be sabatoging (speel?) our rigs....special Anti-TeAm virus! :Q

I just found another Industrial PIII 550 at work that is being salvaged. I might try to get it going as quick as I can. It needs a NIC, but those are cheap enough. Should give a couple of WU's per day.

I guess I could just take the HD and stuff and buy another XP cruncher instead!

(Overtime has its advantages! )

Ya really:frown:...I just lost my main rig for about 4 hours because it was randomly restarting. Ends up I lost the RAM. It'll be back up to par next week sometime.

MoFunk,

I don't want to tell you to suck eggs but....

Is it the bandwidth of these PC's running rather than the fact they run SETI at all?

If that is the case and with heavy work from you setting them up you could try SetiHide which would mean you could upload and download manually after supplying the rigs concerned with mucho WU's.

The problem would be that you would have to go round getting the results onto a USB flash card or similar before taking them back home to upload.

Just a thought. (Not sure how many rigs you run there)

skrjones - I have attacked this from all angles and just got out of my meeting. We are going to start pushing around very large images and will have roughly 300 people accessing these all day long. Our head office is starting to take a little more control of the network since they are footing the bill. There are setting up network analyzers, and bandwidth monitors for LAN and internet. They are putting a policy in place that they are logging ALL traffic and anything they see that is not work related will be dealt with. So basically all "fun" web browsing and file transfers are done! I have talked the powers that be into letting me continue on this site since I spend a lot of time researching and learning in the network area so they can let that slide as legit. I have battled this before and was always able to get MY bosses to let it slide, but now that corporate is involved and they are watching everything, my hands are tied. I was trying to get a month but they are giving me a week to make it all go away.

Sorry TeAm, but what else can you do right.

Quote of the day (to get you fired up)...

Just trying to be a curtious competator as we stomp them back into the ground from which they came from.

This quote brought to you courtesy of BBR......living in a van, down by the river! :Q

Gotta love corporate politics and thickheadedness. But... you gave it your best, which is more than sufficient, after all this isn't the end of the world or anything here. We just have to get Adul to make a few more news posts and hopefully that will help fill in at least some of the gap. We've been increasing production faster than all hell lately, so I think we can survive this too!

Mofunk, thanks for trying man - you gotta protect your emplyment though - totally understandable! At least we got the benefit for as long as possible, thanks!

Maybe it's time for another parts drive, I will bet we all have pieces & parts laying around that TeAm mates could use to put together a few crunchers....

Just an update on my little shuttle miniPC. I really wanted to get more out of it so I tried replacing the Duron with an Athlon, and the PC2100 with PC2700. Made NO DIFFERENCE! Guess the board just does not like a really high FSB. Must be the dual onboard video I would assume. But anyway, looks like those new Duron's can be quite a value. I just sent 2 8K7A boards in for RMA and then they get back I may be able to swing buying another Duron with a stick of ram and get another cruncher going.

I had one of those Shuttle mini PC's with a Celeron 1000 (still do)....the onboard video was choking the memory bandwidth down due to it's shared nature. My memory scores went up 75% and my SETI WU's time went down by 1/3 with the addition of a PCI video card!

YMMV!

I am thinking of doing the same thing! I do have an AGP slot and a spare AGP card! I do plan on using the dual screen at some point but that wont be for a while, so I can disable the onboard video and get some nice bandwidth back for the FSB!

Also it does depend which version of the 1600Duron you have. A Athlon A or B. The A core is not as god for O/Cing and also the green substrate is better than the brown.
It may be you have hit the limit of your chip without bumping the Vcore, but the GC is a good point to try.

Still a sub 3 hour time from a $40 CPU can't be bad. My Athlon 2200+ (1800) runs at 3:10 avg
