If u want me 2 oc, I am willing 2 do so, but I would like it if someone could give me some guidance on the best way..... OH SNAP!! I my mobo came w/a ocing thingy, I'll try it out!! ::WISH ME LUCK!!::

Just run 1 instance per CPU, real or virtual.
About the priority thing, if you mean the setting on SETI Driver, just leave it set to 'Low'.

The best advice I can give you if you proceed with your OCing is: GHOST

I have no idea what GHOST means, could you please explain it to me or give some links or something about it?? thx! it sounds pretty interesting....

i dont think ill oc, the os reinstallation is the biggest problem, ive got a sata raid 0 set up that took a long time 2 get together(drivers-the right combination means everything), and its finally working perfectly...

Some systems I put together specifically to OC, while others specifically to stay nice & quiet & cool.
It all depends on your needs for a particular system and your willingness to risk a little.

If a guy buys an Epox 8RDA3 mobo, some Twinmos PC3000 CAS2.0 (3-2-2-2) ram & a AMD XP1700+ and doesn't OC it just seems a waste. The thing was built to run 1.47ghz but will pretty easily run 2.1ghz or even higher. It really is the difference between 3+hr WU's and 2hr 11min average WU's. Multiplied by a year that's a lot of extra WU's you can pull out of that CPU, keeping it down at 2.1ghz means you don't have to get really crazy with the OC, maybe a little voltage bump

But OC'ing isn't for everyone, Smoke is right you can waste a lot of time especially if you are trying to keep it right out there at the outside limit. There is a lot of room between that limit and stock speed though, nothing wrong with a little safe & sane OC'ing

Yes, I've played with water, peltiers, refridgerator freezers & putting the PC outside in the winter. It's not worth it.
Find a good combo that's a "sure bet" for a nice OC & stick to it within safe & sane limits. Save that "cooling power" money to build your next rig

Just my $.02

Little extra??? ,I guess you've never had a good overclocking cpu then? ( I thought you had?)
Ghost/imaging is a good idea though

So what's the difference down to now?

I have a couple of systems that WILL NOT overclock because it has some really generic ram. But I still raise the FSB up a couple just because I HAVE TO! I can't have a system in my house run at the stock FSB. Even if it will only do 134, I have to do it. But like wiz said, with the setup he mentioned it does not take much to get the FSB to 210 and that will just pound the WU's! I even had to OC my little shuttle media PC. It is doing a 166 FSB and it is giving me WU's at an average of 2:40. SWEET!

I would like that too. Can someone also point me to a guide to set up wine on a redhat9 system?

Why not just use the Linux client? Although I hate to send you to the evil competition, there is a thread over at Broadband reports that tells you how to set up Seti under Linux.

http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,9127493~mode=flat[/q

That is a very old thread, are the links for that stuff still valid?

Why not just use the Linux client?

Because I have understood that running the Windows CLI under WINE is faster than the native Linux client.

If I'm wrong, I can just run the native Linux client, but it is an old, relatively slow machine and it could mean an hour or more per WU difference.

Woah, it's getting close!

I should hopefully have another computer to add to my fleet sometime next week and I've got a couple of processors lying around just crying out for a motherboard and a SETI CLI
