I decided on the Note II (over the Nexus 4 & LG Optimus G) but I wasn't eligible for an upgrade until 12/28. I called AT&T to see if they could do anything, but they couldn't. So I gave them a low scored survey.

I got call back from a supervisor who wanted to know what he could do to keep me happy and, long story short, I got a Note II for $99. So, despite all the bitching about AT&T, they took care of me. Thanks AT&T!

Usually what happens with me is when I move down that road is "nope nope can't do anything. we don't want to lose your business, but we simply can't do it. kthxbye"

That's sweet. I tried to do a 3 weeks early upgrade when the new iphone came out but kept getting denied.

Seriously, for locking you in to a two year contract that costs significantly more per line than most non-contract options, they should just give you any device you want for free every two years.

Not surprising, what with all the defections of late to Verizon, Sprint, etc. My brother-in-law got his SGS3 for $50 and unlimited data from Sprint on a 2-yr. contract. When my contract is up, I'm going to give AT&T one chance to keep me, but they will have to sweeten the pot significantly over what I have now. It's a buyer's market out there now that there are so many good phones from which to choose, and carriers who offer them.

I don't find it very funny. You've only netted out $500 - eBay fees (425 total?). You'll more than pay that back over the two year agreement you just signed.

ETF is $350, but it requires you to pay for a month or you're required to return the phone you bought.

Sweet deal. The only other alternative you could have considered is to buy DNA and bring it AT&T's network though I don't know how you weigh specs and features, just going by devices you listed.

Sorry but I have to ask, how did you hang onto your account for so long without participating? You posted 10 times in 10 years. Was that your post for 2012? When can we expect to hear from you again?

I'm sticking w/ ATT because I have unlimited data with them still. That's the only reason I'm with them. Plus, my corporate discount is 10%, so that helps on the pricing side.

AT&T customer support always takes care of me never had an issue with them where I had to escalate to the managers or leave them a bad survey.

I wasn't eligible either, but called about a week ago about the Note 2. I got it for $75, free shipping, and waived upgrade fee. It's all about getting the right person and negotiation with them in a civilized manner.
