Just a quick note to acknowledge and say I'm sorry to go.
I don't feel welcome but by a numbered few who have PM'd me. Save a couple of notable exceptions.

I'm taking the weekend with my machines resting to consider. I'm disheartended by the slamming by those who should be "teammates" that I've recieved in response to efforts to build, and lead.

Maybe I should just post a "should DanC go" poll and abide by that ranking? - I don't know.
I've been delivered the smackdown by some I hold very close - while trying to support them. That doesn't sit well with me, and I need some time to consider what to do.

I've spent a lot of money gathering equipment for this project, and donating time. - I'm now wondering why. I suppose e-bay will provide me the financial recompense. The other - well... I suppose time will heal that.

Dan, what exactly has made you consider quitting? surely a few DPC trolls on these boards cant make that much of a difference?

If you were a youngster then I could understand that it could get you down, but a grown man should be able to deal with it, you have gotta expect that not everyone will like everyone elses posts, but thats what makes things fun! freedom to speech and ideas.

The world would be so dull if everyone just agreed with everyone else! stand up for your beliefs and enjoy yourself! dont listen too much to the critics, there are plenty of people that think what you have done for the team so far is pretty damm amazing and have put a lot of spirit back into the project!

If you want to go then go, I guarantee a poll would decide that you would stay! just if you are having problems with people then PM people as this sort of stuff really dont help team spirit.

And dont forget... we love you man

I think I understand what happened.

Dan has come up with ALOT of recruiting ideas for TA and some people have been shooting them down like nothing, he is upset over this. Also you may have noticed he does an excelent job of scaring off the DPC trolls, well some people are again slaming him over this. Now if this happens over and over to a person then I know for a fact that it becomes very unerving and they just explode. Dan and I had a little chat on PM and after I made an @ss out of myself I found Dan is really hurting inside from some of the coments that have been made towards him. We can only hope he forgives and forgets, much like he did for me when I started it with him, what has happened and we can keep the cute little Borg around.

Something to remember is we all have feelings, if someone has a suggestion please do not flame them or bash it. Suggestions are allways welcomed, there is no such thing as a perfect idea. Lets work together, not against each other.

DanC, we run different projects but we are both still part of Team AnandTech and I sincerly hope you won't leave the team. I think I understand your frustration and why you're considering leaving.

There is a fundamental difference between Team AnandTech and the Dutch Power Cows. They use nationalistic pride to bond their team, and we don't.

Team AnandTech covers so many countries around the world. When we recruit, the one thing we CAN'T do is push the NATION button.

So, Dan, and all the others who feel like you're having trouble recruiting and team building, keep that in mind. We are the United Nations of teams. Look how poorly they (the UN) perform. But, like the United Nations, it isn't always the performance that keeps the dream alive.

and, no, I'm not going to form or join an "American" or "USA" team, but can't you see how much easier it would be to rally your local school or business if you could say, "Look at this! The Dutch are kicking our butts! We can't let America down. Remember the Alamo! Remember D-Day! Help us out and stop this foreign aggression. If we don't stop it here, and get America back in its rightful number one spot, we'll all be eating Dutch Chocolate soon."

Well, even though I am new to rc5, DanC has all my admiration and support. If I was not basically housebound but still active in academic circles, I would definitely emulate his actions. After all, we are BORG!

Although i know that you won't react anymore, i just hope that you will continue to read this thread. I've read the discussions on the AnandTech board and was shocked to see so much discussions about the late problems on the 'family'-idea.

Let me tell you a little bit of history:
About a year ago I was full of idea's and plans for the RC5 contest. I decided to talk to everyone who had a system to install the client and so gain a little more power every day. Then I did something stuppid to show off and claimed to have a huge keyrate in the near feature. Because I had to depend on machines that where not in my control, I almost caused a flamewar here in a group that should be my 'family' I was dissapointed and left, to crack on my one but the love for the 'family' never left! I had a break for a few months and came back to 'my roots' to join my team again. Not only do i have a lott of fun lately but I also notice that the problems that where there in the past had solved it's self.

What i would like to say with this is: I think i do understand what your feeling is right now (although i don't know you), get a break, concentrate on other things (work, family, other things) and give yourself some rest. You should see that when you look at team AnandTech in some time, the problems that are now there, will be solved (I really hope they do).

I really hope that you will continue the RC5 compitition, it would be a great loss if we and team AnandTech should lose someone that has allways been a person to stimulate others in gaining power and working as a team.

You are still a winner to me!

All this talk is taking the fun away from RC5. Maybe I'll just quit too. It?s not fun anymore Too serious. You've inspired me to assimilate more PC's and now I'm at ~1000 blocks per day (except yesterday... gaming time )

I'll continue to visit the GH forum... but will stay away from here.

you don't know me and I don't know you...in fact, I don't even run rc5 (I use seti). but from what I've gathered, you've been criticized for eccentric ideas. many have said you contributed a lot so I understand why you would react that way. at the hot deals board, many people are trying inform others about deals and some idiots would flame them off if the deal isn't hot enough (see the winzip thread for example). I just hate it when ppl b*tch others out for trying to help so I can see why you would want to quit. on the other hand, everyone here is saying "no, dont' quit: we're a team!" and that annoys me because here are team members at each other's throats (in your case, ppl are at your throat because you have ideas for recruitment). so if you leave, most of the blame should fall on the a$$holes who b*tched you out and maybe they will realize how important your contributions were. but now think about it: do you really want to disappoint the others who were on your side all along? and should you really take those criticisms to heart?

one last thing, I'm not at this board often but I find SETI members very helpful...so if you decide to cross over here where the grass is greener (IMHO), then no one's stopping you, at least no one from seti team anandtech .
