Currently paying $1800 for my toddler. If I have two kids, I'd be paying $3500 a MONTH. That's someone's $50-55K salary before taxes, full time.

And ATOT parents know that this is the norm. My friends pay similar up in Boston, and even down in south- ATL.

The friend of mine in ATL makes similar salary as mine, but the low CoL is amazing. 6 bed, 5 ba house for 650K...AND he still gets to enjoy all the cosmo/trendy/metro scenes the Atlanta offers as a city.

My daughter's daycare has stayed fairly steadily around $500 a month here in Ohio. It was a little more when she was an infant (maybe $650 a month) but nothing close to what you are paying.

$500-600 per kid here, plus multi-kid discounts.

Even my friends in the Sac area only pay ~$900-1000 per kid, and that's with all of the stupid CA regulations.

Infant care is brutal. We were up to almost $1200 a month in podunkville central, IL. It drops about a $50 a week for each year they get older because of how ratios change. I think my worst year was $19,000 in daycare bills. Right now my 4 year old costs about $190 a week and aftercare at my daughters grade school is $50 a week.

I did the math and for me I basically needed to make around $42,000 or more for it to be "worth it" after taxes and other things were factored in. A good friend of mine is college educated and was working for the state in the wildlife division and making about $35,000 a year. They had twins. If he still tried to work it would have been a net loss of like $10,000 a year for them. It was much cheaper to be a stay at home dad.

Hire a Nanny or Au pair (less expensive). They barely get paid since you provide room and board, seriously I'd bet its a good amount cheaper.
You do have to let them use a car occasionally and you can't work them 7 days a week but you can assign light cleaning duties or food prep a few days per week. I used to know some when I was younger.

The credit is "up to" 35% credit on $3000 for one kid or $6,000 on two. And it goes down a percent for every $1,000 you make over $15,000 to a miminum credit of 20%.

So if you make over $40,000 and you have two kids in daycare, your are getting back $1200. It's not a huge amount.
