FIXED ya whipper snappers :disgust: LOL ....

Summery:

He was racing a friend as they got off work Friday night. He was behind his friends car. Friend slams on the brake cause of the stop sign. Son swerves right to miss friend and blows through the stop sign. T bones the side ( back end of a semi with trailer ) rear wheels of trailer go up and over the right front of the car .. spin the car 180. Kid sprains ankle but walks away with nobody else hurt. Big $$ ticket for his recklessness.

he should have went to jail and lose license for life. Stupid punk

Overreacting: because forgiveness is for the French!

Because its stupid, dangerous, and just as bad if not worse than drinking and driving. In florida they have jail time for this shit. It pisses me off and I bet parents that lost kids to punks like this would be even more pissed off. Its great that his father treats it like a joke too. Not that there is anytime to change a 19 year old anyways he already instilled into his son all he can.

I take driving serious as there is no more dangerous thing to do. I think one wreck loss license for at least a year two loss for at least 5, three life, regardless of fault. Too many people die due to idiots on the road.

I too was a major idiot on the road when i was 16-21 i should have lost my right to drive but, if i knew i could loss it easily i would have treated it with more care.

What state gives you a ticket for an accident?

Its called driving beyond the conditions of the road. i.e. Wet road + going too fast (even if it is speed limit) = his fault.

Agreed. Responsibility obviously wasn't stressed enough at home. A 19-year-old who's going to college ought to know better.

Because it's never your own fault, there has to be someone else to blame.

disagree. every once in a while you will screw around. i know i've driven way too fast on some roads, but as luck may have it, no deer popped out, no cars were stuck, etc. and i wasn't the typical teen to get myself killed.

now racing, yes, is incredibly stupid. at some point the kid must be responsible for his own actions. at 19, he's plenty old enough.

Imagine if he didn't hit the wheels/tires, but instead struck the mid-section of the semi.

The car would have been decapitated and so would your son. Closed casket.

WRONG! This was the kid's fault. 100%.

Actually, I think the punishment is pretty much in line with what a responsible parent would (and should!) do (at least to me). But, I would make him pay for the car also rather than just the ticket.

Could it have been worse? Of course, it can always be worse. But seriously, if you are going to blame the parent then there is something seriously wrong with you.

Ya he's alright .. sprained foot but he made it. No one else hurt ... he blew a stop sign and hit the back end of a semi rig and it rolled over the hood. he got a $3000 ticket as well. He's done driving for a couple years for sure.

A $3,000 ticket? Where the hell do you live?

Portland,OR ... he was cited for recklessness negligent ...i.e: he was fukin racing his friend after they got off work :|

I'm assuming the cane? The belt might be too lenient

A wooden paddle with holes in it. Hit him some where that'll show. He can wear his red welts with polka dots with pride.

Someone was telling me about a program they have in their area. Kids that have just recieved their license are on "probation" and if they get in an accident or have a serious ticket during that frist five year stretch, *bam*, license gone for two years.

My parents understood it was a mistake and there was no punishment for what I did. They got $8000 from the insurance, and they gave me a 5 year old 98 Lexus ES300 since I still needed a car. I am greatful my parents understood I made a mistake and didn't hold it against me.

Falling asleep behind the wheel vs racing someone, too totally different things.

The punishment is legitimate. The parent is not at fault for the speed racing, the kid decided that on his own. But the behavior of the kid to become so reckless and not to think of consequences was the parent?s at fault. And nope, sorry nothing wrong with me.

The post high school lessons are kicking in for your sun. Looks like he's going to come out of this one alive, like I did on a few occasions when I behaved like a hormone-soaked noob at life who thought he was a hotshot. He's been adequately humbled and I'm sure will be a step closer to manhood at this point.

He had a great thing going by using our car for work and not paying any rent or food so he could go to college part time ....

Sorry to hear about the accident but happy to hear that no one was seriously injured. Hopefully he learns a lesson from this and realizes the danger he put other people and himself at.

And happy to hear you are putting your foot down but not going to far. Going to far would be kicking him out at this point and going to easy would be doing anything less than what you stated.
