As this day is about those who have fallen:
the families that have sons or daughters that have fallen in the current war, or the wars of past: they are in our hearts. But not just this weekend. For you, every day, as it should be. The waving of the colors themselves, in my eyes, serves as a humble daily tribute to those who have fallen.
"Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy, forget in time that men have died to win them."
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Even though that quote is in my sig, for those that may not look at sigs, it is a quote that especially has an impact on this day.
and if I may, I would like to pay tribute to my grandfather. While he had not fallen in the line of fire, he served during WWII as a soldier in the OSS (in the US Army), and fought behind enemy lines in many locations throughout the European theater, from the North African battles and into the Middle East, throughout Normandy and elsewhere in France, and quite likely a few places in Germany before the Battle of the Bulge. He missed out on the timeline of the 'Bulge, however, due to dysentery. He passed away March 5th, 2006.
