You can drive the second monitor with the Sandy Bridge integrated graphics, FYI. If you drive both monitors with the GTX 570, it won't downclock to idle frequencies at idle. At least that's what happens with my 560 ti when using two 60hz monitors or one 120hz monitor on desktop.

Usually I don't recommend Acer products, be it displays or laptops. They're a cheap brand targeted at people who just look at the price tag... Though I guess good enough for the majority of people. This wouldn't be a bad idea, though I'm not sure if i could handle my facebook or future newegg pages not having the most hardcore graphics of today lol.

That actually means H set and above correct? As in the Z68/P67 will support the built-in visuals?

P67 will not Z68 has support but not all motherboards support it, so go Z68 and make sure the motherboard has HDMI (or whatever display interface you plan on using)

For just a little more (or maybe even the same price after taking into account tax), you can have an ASUS VH242H. The ASUS isn't LED backlit, but it does have a pretty good quality panel (for a TN).

I know its quite a bit but I have redone alot of the machine and brought my other components down in price. I love EVGA for their warranty and CS.

For just a little more (or maybe even the same price after taking into account tax), you can have an ASUS VH242H. The ASUS isn't LED backlit, but it does have a pretty good quality panel (for a TN).

Changed monitor selection, not sure to what but they are a wee pricier than first choice

Swap the AS5 thermal paste to NT-H1 for $3 less (it's better).

You don't need to pay so much for a mobo, you only need one expansion slot as of now. Get Asus P8Z68-V LE for $132. It won't do SLI, but Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H will for $160.

Could also grab a sound card: Asus Xonar DG for $30 off microcenter.

Then you're good to go IMO

USB 3.0 header as well as supports on board video? Im taking everyones advice and staying single GPU but 2nd monitor for bs stuff

Oh for sure, once i get back and get it put together i most certainly will. Only hideous thing im worried about is the non-mdular PSU, but the HAF and excellent cable mgmt so it shouldnt be an issue

I already have the BOSE speakers chillin in arkansas.

The mobo im getting has minimal yet sufficient features. UEFI, sata, 3.0 header, and supports on-board graphics.

I'll say it again, the $350 GTX 570 that you have listed is way too damn much money to be spending on that card. Hell, you can buy a 6970 for less!

Also, you'll like EVGA a lot less if you ever try to actually use that fancy warranty (don't forget to register, lol). They love sending you broken cards as warranty replacements until you give up and just buy a whole new card.

I've heard nothing but positive about EVGA's warranty service :/. It's true though that you could get a Galaxy 570 for $280AR. 3 year warranty. Is the customer service alone worth $70?

Definitely not worth it IMHO. There are several people on these boards who have gotten stuck on the EVGA warranty treadmill and couldn't get off. It was particularly terrible in the 8800 days. Some people got 3 cards a week!

This board is actually perfect for anyone going single-gpu. All the features you would need at a really good price, may not have pci 3 but w/e, its a sacrifice im willing to make, especially at $130

Yeah a lot of things can change in two months. I doubt the Galaxy will be the "deal of the day" at that point. $280 is the price that you should be zeroing in on though.

PCIe Gen 3 is largely a marketing gimmick at this point anyway. On a Sandy Bridge system, the PCIe lanes that drive the GPU are fed directly from the CPU, and they're only Gen 2.

i get more and more excited everyday about putting this machine together when i get home.

thought of a few accesories id like for it. lehtv mentioned a sound card, and i may get a plantronics 777 headset as well, have a turtlebeach headset but i think it may be time to upgrade it with an entire new build
