I normally hold the door open for everybody, not just women, but if someone got an attitude with me for being polite, they'd quickly find themselves walking through a plate glass door.

It is! I always try to hold the door for anyone. I don't care if it's a man, woman, or child.

: ) Amanda

Oh hell no, I don't hold the door open for children.

Feck them.
Ok, Michael Jackson....

I always hold the door open for anyone. I look to do it whether they have their hands full or not. And I always thank someone who holds a door open for me.
It's something I have to think about every time the opportunity arises... how far behind are they and will I have to make them rush up to the door just because they see me holding it for them. In actuality, I'd rather it not be held open for me - sometimes I do feel rushed to it - I can open my own door and I don't feel like saying "thank you" a million times. It's nice of them, but no thanks.

With that said, I keep it open everytime for anyone within range. But I feel bad for making some of them run. *insert laugh here*

Oh man, I have my own story to tell...This one's a bit different:

So I was walking into a building and the doors are glass so I can see if someone is coming through.

I see a father talking on his phone pushing a baby in a stroller headed towards me about to exit the building. I decide to hold the door open for them even though they are a bit far away. The dad proceeds to walk through the doorway without even looking at me...

Should I hold the door for them again?...

there's this girl at school named charley who's this miss priss bitch... it's no wonder she's been engaged THREE TIMES! anyways, whenever i hold the door open for her, she NEVER acknowledges the fact that i even held the door open for her... no smile, no glance or nod, no "thanks"... nothing... just walks on through as if she was entitled to having the door opened for her...

one day, i was having a pretty cruddy day and she just walked through and like she normally does and doesn't even look at me and say, "what do you say? i just held the door open for you... what the fvck do you say?" she looked at me as if i slapped her across the face and said nothing...

needless to say, even when she's close behind me or something and i walk through the door first, i kinda throw the door closed behind me as if she wasn't even there.

not to sound racist, biased or nothing but this similar incident has happend maybe 6 or 7 x's i recall
the final time was i held the door open at a bank for this black woman with i'd say a 5 yr old behind her..she walked straight in, no thanks, no nod..didnt even achknoledge my existance, the kid lookn up at me as he walked in and i'm thinkn...yeah kid, learn from mommy
so now i wont hold door open for any african american woman...sorry but the few kill it for everyone, sad but true so now when it comes to holding doors or even an elevator, i'm very biased

had alot of negative experiences with religious women too, its like thier zealousy became a mental disease or something.

buetiful women that tend to get hit on alot over the years become very rude people as well, i can see why though, if i got hit on alot or provoked into pointless convo's i'd likely tend to ignore or shun alot of people too.

my constant negative experience with women is they analyze too much, always looking to read into things that arnt there, they also cant handle truth about themselves

This morning, I went to a local coffee/bakery place for work. As i walked in, a very nice man held the door for me as he was leaving. He also held the door for the woman in front of me.

Now, she ordered her double frap half caf no sugar soy latte and waited for it, then i ordered my items as well. Her coffee and my stuff came up at about the same time and i was literally ONE step behind her as we walked out the door. She saw how much i was carrying, yet she pushed open the door and let it slam in my face as she walked out.
That irks me more than anything. She was a total bitch, just concerned about herself.

This is what I have noticed: Most women are B!TCHES. It is true. They are horrible and inconsiderate.
Why is this? is it the way were are programed? Has soceity taught us that we are supposed to be better than everyone else... other women included?

Because this annoys me so much, I have made it a point to be the exact opposite as this witch of a woman was today.

Has anyone else every noticed that most women are like this?

PS... I do not feel horrible at all that i am ragging on "my own kind".

We adults already knew this.

Lolawiz, I respectfully disagree.

It is wrong to generalize bad behavior to one sex or the other. Because you experienced a gentleman opening the door and then an apparently self-focused female not doing the same thing doesn't mean it is a valid generalization.

I work with 40 some odd women.... elementary school teachers... and it is one of the most helpful, caring group you could imagine. I wouldn't say that because the sample of the population I am exposed to that all women are more caring than men...

Perspective and circumstance are funny things.

After reading the preceeding paragraphs, you seem to be talking about yourself in the bolded part.

Sometimes, you get the feeling things like courtesy are universally absent. And so is appreciation for others that believe in it.
I wait at the door for 5 seconds for my gf or a gal pal, there are people that give me a look that says "Kiss Ass"
I open a door for a pal, nobody notices. WTF is that?

There are nice people out there. I once had my hands full with gift bags and a few pounds of leftover cake from my parents Anniversary party and was trying to reach for my keys (to load them all into the car). I dropped them and this middle-aged woman (not from the party) that was a dozen feet away actually walked towards me, picked them up and handed them to me - after offering to hold some of my bags so I could free a hand. That was very nice of her.

I thought when people say "from the south" they typically mean the southeast.. GA, AL, MS.. etc

Im from the south. Normally when I think of it I include AL, GA, FL, SC, and TN.

Women, on the other hand, doesn't have to be kind with men (they already are) and why be kind with other women? They are the competition!

I think the other way, most women have low self esteem and stick the the jerk that treats her like ******.

You include Florida but not Louisiany, Mississippi, or Virginny?
What about Kentucky?

I always thought we acted in certain ways because it was inline with our personal values, not so that we could catch other people not returning the favor and call them profane names.

At the end of the day what matters more, how you acted or how other people acted?

Very well stated Jean! I don't hold doors open or do courteous acts for the thanks I get in return. When someone doesn't say thank you, I don't generally care. If someone doesn't hold the door for me, I just open it myself. I may be a tad upset for a minute but I have other things to worry about.

Everyone gets in a bad mood and this mood can often effect the way they act in regards to others.
