Topics have a tendency to shift. You're right, what I said doesn't apply to the first post in this thread, but the discussion took on the larger issue of how women relate to others, men and women, in today's society. While my statement may not apply to the specific example of holding the door open for others, I hope I'm not deluding myself by thinking that it applies to the state of mind of certain women in regards to others.

Well there are many men and women that think that a man should open doors for women. I have seen many women sit in a car and wait for their boyfriend or husband to come around and open the door for them. I've een seen women wait at doors to restaurants for the same reason. It's pretty pathetic. I never expect people to hold the door for me.

I have actually been lectured by women before for opening the door for them. Stuff like, "I am an independent woman and don't need your help" feminist BS.

I swear, ever since the sexual revolution, too many women think they are entitled to stripping men from their right to be a gentleman. And then they wonder when men abuse them emotionally or physically.

Real gentleman are swiftly becoming replaced by wussy metrosexuals.

Man last time a woman tried to pull that crap on me I just said, "Excuse me," she turned and looked at me and I literally walked right into her and hip checked her hockey style. She wants to be an independent woman, I'll be an a$$hole.

Otherwise I just assume to be a gentleman and hold the door for everyone.

I'd rather open the door for myself than have a "gentlemen" go out of his way to open the door for me because I have a vagina and a pair of boobs. Be a human and open the door for anybody. It makes you no better to open the door for a woman.

Oh, and if this is feminist BS, that's fine with me.

I don't mind holding doors for women, I do it to be polite. If some women are offended by that due to assuming I'm flaunting some underlying superiority then that's fine, those are the sort of women I wouldn't want to associate with anyway.

It all comes down to intent, actions can easily be misconstrued, it's the intention behind the action that counts.

I do that all the time! I have held the door for about 15 people before because I didn't want to let the door go and have it slam in someone's face.

Maybe she didn't think it'd slam shut so quickly? Some doors stay open seemingly forever, others just shut right away.
Maybe it felt to her like it had enough friction in the hinge to close slowly.

I've accidentally let doors close in front of people because I held the door for someone else, looked back to make sure they either had the door or were through, and then I let got when I turn back around to continue on my way, only to find that there's someone else headed toward the door. And they probably hurried up to get to the open door, so they weren't moving at a consistent speed compared to when I last may have seen them approaching.

Still, opening a door is really only a mild gesture in my mind. It usually doesn't take all that much energy to open one. Often I don't like it when someone is several steps ahead of me, because then they hold the door and I need to hurry up so as to get the door. I'd sooner just maintain my pace, and open it myself. It's not like the use of the extra calories is going to cause me to starve to death.

Hahaha... one time I was at Daphne's Greek Cafe for lunch. I had ordered already so I was sitting down waiting for my food. A little while later a pregnant woman walked in. She must have been 7-8 months pregnant because she was huge. I offered my seat and the pregnant woman gave me the nastiest response. I was like "WTF!? What a bitch!?"

I cant say that I've ever let a door intentionally or carelessly slam in someones face. If I ever do it by accident, I apologize. Such a simple thing DOES say a lot about a person.

This relates just fine if you don't look at it head on (apply it to the... erm excuse me). You can take this as, "Women still expect men to hold open the doors, etc., but when it comes to 'returning the favor', there is no accountability or expectancy."

I don't think anyone is really inferring that you should go out of your way to hold the door open for a fine lady fox coming down the hallway. Although, that does give me an excuse to check her out .

I had some woman flip out on me once too.... The thing is, it was at work and you're not supposed to hold the door open for people anyway. I was told on my first day that people do it, but you should ensure that the person has also followed proper procedure to unlock the door. So I stood there and waited to ensure proper procedure and she just gave me an evil look and snarled as she said, "You don't have to stand there!!" Then at the next door, I ignored her "advice" and did it again... she got so angry she said "fine, I'll just close the door." Sure she wouldn't care, I'd be the one to get in trouble for just walking away .

Are you? Composition of a woman's personality, shallow, selfish, and petty. Is there another kind?

Does that composition include your mom, grandmother and sisters if you have any? I am not trying to insult you by asking that, but your blanket statement is pretty ridiculous.

Unless of course the only interactions you have ever had with women in your entire life are composed as you list above.... in which case, I am sorry for you.

We are not all like that.

You know she is right......as much as I hate to admit it. Even though I haven't always had the best lovelife, I still absolutely adore women. They are our gift in this world.

That being said never ever have a scarcity mentality. There are billions of women on this planet. For every hot girl you see on the street, I can point you out to 10 more on another street. If a girl is particularly bitchy the best way to combat it is to be unreactive. Apathy is the opposite of love, and when you truly don't care is when you get back at people the worst.

Damn them for not realizing that you only held the door for the "Thank you!", than out of simple courtesy.

That's it, you're on my door slamming list now.
