Pretty bad when the only thing McCain said in the debate that's talked about afterward is this.
Personally, I'd like to talk about his petty "Did we hear a fine amount?" comment and his from-left-field policy of reducing everyone's mortgage principle at the government's expense.
I for one am VERY interested in said fine, and I think it's more than fair to press him for a specific figure. Everyone expects the nitty gritty of McCain's health care proposals, why can't we ask the same of Obama?
McCain's desire to buy up all the "bad" mortgages terrifies me, and so does Obama's taxing of small businesses.
I'm a small business owner, but I'm the sole employee and I bring in and clear about 100k (no overhead whatsoever), so I'm in no real danger - directly. My father in law, on the other hand, owns a law firm with 8 employees. They bring in over $250,000/year, but I think people are losing sight of revenue != profit. Their firm has been struggling to remain profitable, but when the public hears "it only affects small businesses making over $250,000", they picture Uncle Moneybags running to the bank with a quarter million dollars.
I really think small business taxation is going to hurt us - as a country - a lot. I'll admit I haven't paid much attention to either candidate's health care plan, but McCain's taxation of the $5,000 seems ridiculous.
Neither of these people are what the economy needs right now. I'm comfortable with both with regard to foreign policy, and Obama has certainly impressed me in that regard over the past few weeks.
I'm just rambling at this point... time to hit the reply button.
Small businesses are not taxed (or given breaks based on) revenue. It's how much the business makes, i.e., the profit, which is taxed, or not depending upon the rules.
Sorry - massive brainfart. Been up for 36 hours straight.
