That speed thing says I should get like 390 WU but I'm just at 30% after 6 hours. Help.

Sounds like you are doing OGR. Add this to your dnetc.ini file:

[misc]
project-priority=RC5,DES=0,CSC=0,OGR=0

I was just about to reply to your other thread.

Are you sure that you aren't running OGR? you need to set the OGR priority equal to 0 because the client defaults to running OGR.

If this isn't the case, it would be helpful for you to post your ini file.

What mindless and sciencewhiz said! Either that or maybe you are running a 3D screen saver?

When you changed your .ini file earlier (previous post), did you delete the buffers in the Distributed.net directory and fetch a new buffer for RC5?

Engineer,

You shouldn't have to delete the buffer files after changing the ini. By default, the client downloads 24 OGR workunits and 24 RC5 workunits. Once you change the ini, the client will just ignore the OGR buff-in and use the RC5 buff-in.

You also need to restart the client after changing the ini file for the changes to take effect. right click on the cow icon and choose restart.

It says I'm doing RC5. Like Loaded something RC5 packet ... 4 RC5 packets in something-in.rc5
No I don't use a ScreenSaver cause my monitor powers off after an hour, but the computer stays on.

Do you use the powersavings options? That slows down your CPU because it will decrease the clockfrequency to about 60% (depending on your personal settings...)

Is there anything like the line below?

[Sep 16 14:52:13 UTC] 4 RC5 packets (6 work units) are in buff-out.rc5

This shows that the client has completed 6 work units. If you don't see anything like that then I'm just about out of ideas.

Edit: I forgot to ask what rate you got when you benchmark it. accoriding to Virge's speed page you shoul get 990kkeys/sec. If you get less than this try using Another Task Manager to check for programs taking an inordinate amount of CPU time. Take a look at the end of This thread to see my problems with slow RC5 speeds.

Do you have an anti-virus program running on the back ground?
Or any other program for the mather?

Look at those and kill them.

If you are running w98 use the option start -> run -> msconfig
and remove programs from the startup tab whitch you don't want to start automaticly.
Also look at the Win.ini tab and dubble klick on [windows] and uncheck load= and run=

Afther that you will have to reboot your system but the program will tell you this.

Remember only a coulpe programs need to be started automaticly.
SystemTray, and the DNETC.exe program are requied.
the rest is optional and turn of your screen by switching if of with the power button saves even more power.

If you're on NT/2000, you could find what's taking all your CPU with the Task Manager. Otherwise, (Edit: Shoot, somebody beat me to) Another Task Manager. Just make sure you run it with "CPUCOOLER OFF".
