of course it matters what it draws. IT USES MORE ELECTRICITY to power it up again that it does to leave it on for 20 minutes. hence it would be more inconsiderate to be turning flourescents on and off again and again that it would be to just leave it on.

Oh and I bet you are the guy that also says the same thing about keeping computers on at nite versus shutting them down. Show me the figures. Prove it.

Is that a problem for you?

I am not the one with the problem, they are. I have no issues if ppl leave the lights on. Unless there is a reason for me to turn it off, i wont. But I am running CFL blubs, and im out for 20 minuts, it shoudlnt matter.

if everyone has to split the cost of the energy bill, and they had to pay because you were too lazy to spend 1 second to flip a light switch, then it is YOUR problem.

Argh, I hate when people leave lights on when they aren't in the room.
It's almost as bad as when they leave the TV on when they go to sleep or leave the room.

Tv and computer,{tower,or monitor} use a LOT more electric than lights,LOL.

Very true, however, there are sometimes good reasons to leave PCs on ... (automated defrag runs, webserver, ftpserver, downloading from usenet, encoding, etc ....) Also, PCs take a while to boot up, so it can be a hastle to shut them off. Lights tend to turn on right away. (or maybe 2 or 3 seconds for some flouresent bulbs)

(Yes I know there are very valid reasons to leave SOME lights on, plants, security, etc)

Despite all this talk about light switches, sounds like it's symptomatic of simple incompatability. Maybe you should try to live alone somewhere, might suit you better. Try a flat/studio appt.

If you pay $0.15 kW/hr...then 40W per 20min would cost about $0.002. Thats a fifth of a penny. You might be a nice guy and give them a whole one to cover your negligence.

I agree. You should have turned around and given them each a shiney nickel and said "here, this will cover me for the next 10 times I got out to get something to eat. when that nickle runs out, let me know and I'll scrounge up another nickel or two to make up for the difference in the electrical bill".

All you people who think its a big deal that he should have turn the light off, well, you're just being ANAL.

When you have roommates, you will never find one that is 100% compatible to you.
Its a give and take relationship.

IF you the kind that make a big deal about leaving the lights on, please don't ever get a roommate.

I have a friend who is looking for a roommate to rent a house in the Natomas area. Let me know if you're interested. I lived with him for 4 years in Davis. Let me know if you're still looking.
