Honestly, I just dismiss coiners as legitimate teams. These projects are made so people can volunteer for a good cause. Don't get me wrong, computing power is computing power, but offering an incentive of payment seems like a cheap shot at other teams that do this simply because they want to make a positive impact.

Summed up with a paraphrased (and slightly dramatic quote in this context) quote I forgot the origin of: Expecting rewards for good deeds does not make one a good person.

(Though I'm aware of the irony of saying that, while we're hosting competitions)

Well in terms of accepting those teams as legit competitors i get it and like you said computing power is computing power, though i would like to point out that they probably helped bring in and keep many Users. While some might strife for fortune, for others it helps with the energy bills.

I have been folding pretty much 24/7 and it costs me about 36€ a month extra with my single card. That doesn't sound like a lot, especially compared to some of you heavy hitters, but it wouldn't be responsible to keep on folding with how my life's going right now unless there was something that could offset that cost. I am happy that i could join this competition and pick up the banner for my fellow bronies, but after this its basically getting some money while folding or nothing.

So far I can't see how crypto currencies aren't designed for the sole purpose of enriching a few at the cost of society. Hence, take care that you will really get paid out, not end up paying.

I made a little money on Bitcoin a long time ago, enough to pay for my 7970. Ultimately the process didn't suit me though. I think I understand the concept as being viable, but it's a young medium and it's going to go through more changes before stabilizing. I imagine that as it matures, cryptocurrency will only be able to be produced by large outfits, right now it's still in the Wild West stage.

Ok, I'm making good on my promise, sort of. I said that I would put my new GTX 1070 ti on F@H for two days. Instead, I'm putting my i5-7400 / GTX1060 3GB gaming PC on F@H until the end of the race. (*) Should help some. (330K PPD?)

(*) Excluding any maintenance, or selling the rig outright.

Here are the stats for the 48th day of the race in Folding@Home with Brony@Home
Stats are as of January 18, 2018, 20.55 UTC (approx).
The inter-team race stats are from the Folding@Home stats page and from EOC.com.

Only 12 more days of this 62 days race left to go. We can not afford to wind down yet ...
Please fold on, it would be a lot of fun if we - the TeAm - could produce 3 000 M points or more in this race.

Today, stormy weather caused flickering lights in the office, but at home power went down completely. It was just briefly, but since I don't have measures in place to restart everything unattended, I had more than 2 hours folding downtime. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it's possibly 1 million points AWOL. (The end of my downtime coincided with the beginning of the new stats outage...)

Oh, my, I just set all my machines in the BIOS to turn on automatically when power is restored. Most of them obey, though there is one scofflaw amongst the fleet.

Oh I don't dare do that (on my non-UPS systems)... Usually the power here is off/on/off/on/off when trouble hits, with a few seconds of brown out thrown into the mix for good measure.

Yes, that can happen here, too. I consider it a reasonable risk when the most likely problem (in my estimation) will be a borked OS or at worst, a HDD. I have never lost any of the expensive stuff, like mobos, GPUs, or CPUs, though if there is credible evidence that this is a likely outcome, I would definitely reconsider.

It happened to my son. He lost a motherboard and hard drive when the PSU went. Every time I have had a PSU go, it took something with ti. So no cheap PSU's, Corsair or Seasonic, thats about the only ones I trust now. And not even the cheap Corsairs, only the top of the line. Until recently I only had AX850's and AX1200's. Now I have two RM1000i's and most recently a Seasonic platinum 850 Focus.

Oh, I have definitely had failures associated with low quality PSUs. But as far as I know, I have not had serious failures from brownouts.

And what funny, the OCZ modstream 700 watt (many years ago) were supposedly buildt by Fortron, and they were supposed to be in the high end of PSUs. I bought 10 of them in about a year, and now all 10 are dead. This is the one that killed my sons 6 months ago. I guess thats OK< it gave me an excuse to upgrade him from a 4 core Xeon to a 10 core one.

I have Corsairs going back 15 years, and NONE are dead.

I remember my OCZ PSU blowing up spectacularly. Was in the middle of a gaming session when all the power in my room was lost. Other rooms were fine, so it looked like I had blown a fuse. As a precaution, I disconnected everything, then replaced the fuse and plugged things back in one at a time.

Of course, to my horror, the last thing left to plug in was the computer, so as another precaution, I disconnected the PSU. My intention had been to plug the PSU into the outlet, and then short the green cable on the 24 pin, but I never got that far. As soon as I flipped the switch, there were sparks large enough to shoot out from the fan grille. Two seconds later, I blew another fuse, and my room reeked of burning electronics.

Replaced it with a platinum rated Seasonic, only to find out that the computer wouldn't boot. Damn OCZ unit took my GTX 295 with it on the first fuse.

My current folding rigs use a Rosewill and EVGA 1600w unit. They've been chugging along nicely 24/7 for over a year now.

I'd like to take this opportunity to let you all know I am going to quit Folding this season........on Valentines Day. Hopefully I will achieve my next milestone by then, the big 1B, 1000 Millions, 10,000 one-hundred-thousands.

I may sound like a broken record, but 1.) thanks so much for the stats petrusbroder, and 2.) wow what a great race this has been (the score is still pretty darn close at day 49)!

But 3rd actually (in ppd), behind Stefan.
... Although on November 29 I reported:
I'm at ~1.9 M PPD currently, from 3 Pascal GPUs.
2 more GPUs to come as I find time to put it all together.
Man was I lucky that I was able to expand in December; such a thing is virtually impossible to do now in January, GPUs being pretty much unavailable now. (Except to those who snatch them by the hundreds or thousands directly at the back doors of the card makers. )
