You are in!Peter, I listed my intent to join on Page 2. Please add me to the cause.
@Markfw , I'm preparing a guide for installing Linux with Nvidia GPUs, thanks to hiigaran of Brony@home. (You can just follow that guide though instead of waiting on me) My 1080's jumped at least 150k ppd!!! (650k to 827k on 9415 tasks) You really really really need to try it on a system or two, it is worth the downtime, even during a race.
Could you tell the components of those 2 motherboard setups ?Best of luck, guys! We might be on different teams, but there's really only one true team everyone is on, and that's science. I'm always glad to see people contributing, no matter who for.
Had to put my custom case construction on hold to keep downtime in the competition to a minimum:
I'm glad people are using that guide. As much as Linux gives me a headache, it would be foolish of me to ignore what it's good for, and the reliability brought on by better handling, as well as the small performance boost is just too good to pass up.
I plan to rewrite that guide at some point though. I had ordered some M.2 drives for my folding rigs (building a chillbox, so it cuts down on cables), but the competition started before I could install them. Will wait until the competition is over so I can reinstall.
I wanted to run ubuntu-server, because the GUI would be an additional resource strain, but I ran into some trouble getting nvidia-settings to work. Apparently it was a kernel issue and needed downgrading, so I'll experiment with that and see if any newer versions since then will work. Otherwise, I'll just downgrade it. I can keep you in the loop if you want.

Hey, I'm in, under VirtualLarry. Team 198, right? I had my passkey saved.
In process of updating this box. It's a Wal-Mart special, $499, with an i5-7400, and a GTX1060 3GB. I may not have it all month, but for now, that's my entry into the race.
Well, I didn't boot it in factory state. I took it apart, disconnected the factory 1TB HDD, and connected a 240GB planar TLC SSD that had been in storage for some time. As it turned out, it had Win10 installed on it, but I'm still wondering if I should do a fresh install.Welcome Larry! I was eyeballing that exact model and thinking of picking up a couple for some "cheap" gaming boxes. What's your take on it so far?

It's actually kind of sluggish, especially doing Windows Updates.
F@H is showing ~298,000 PPD - 370,000PPD.
So how hot are those 1080's running right now without the chill in the box? Those look awful close. Are there any good ways to run more than 2 folding gpu's without packing them in that tight (i.e. risers, etc)?
........
hiigaran said:from his build log:
Fans are LOUD at 100%, but necessary, as the hottest card runs at 82 degrees. The one sitting right on the end with unrestricted airflow is chugging away nicely at 58 degrees though.
At this point I have got 340 W at F@H (at the wall), and 1,750 W at WCG (at the wall, will be less at workdays). I guess I need to quit horsing around and get my priorities straight.Probably, but F@H is way more efficient on GPU's. I think Stefan has mostly CPU's (I could be wrong)Is Stefan racing yet?
Same here. I have zero of 15 cards crunching right now, same error.Oops, actually those 340 W were with only 2 of 3 cards really working, and now I'm down to 1 of 3 cards, soon 0. "Empty work server assignment".
Edit: I'm not alone.
