Honestly, I just dismiss coiners as legitimate teams. These projects are made so people can volunteer for a good cause. Don't get me wrong, computing power is computing power, but offering an incentive of payment seems like a cheap shot at other teams that do this simply because they want to make a positive impact.
Summed up with a paraphrased (and slightly dramatic quote in this context) quote I forgot the origin of: Expecting rewards for good deeds does not make one a good person.
(Though I'm aware of the irony of saying that, while we're hosting competitions)
Well in terms of accepting those teams as legit competitors i get it and like you said computing power is computing power, though i would like to point out that they probably helped bring in and keep many Users. While some might strife for fortune, for others it helps with the energy bills.
I have been folding pretty much 24/7 and it costs me about 36€ a month extra with my single card. That doesn't sound like a lot, especially compared to some of you heavy hitters, but it wouldn't be responsible to keep on folding with how my life's going right now unless there was something that could offset that cost. I am happy that i could join this competition and pick up the banner for my fellow bronies, but after this its basically getting some money while folding or nothing.
