Do you know the story behind Columbine or other school shootings? Do you think they're random events from people who are just simply sad or angry?

God. Why do I even bother?

Please don't make this kid into a martyr.

If this is the one case where someone important figures out that there's a serious problem in mental illness awareness (and schools themselves), then perhaps he is a martyr.

Think hard about that statement and what this discussion is about.

Um how could you even compare his situation with your soccer team? School WAS his life at 15. He can't just quit. He doesn't have a life outside of school, especially when he has no friends. Your life doesn't revolve around soccer. You still have friends after your soccer games. There is no similarity whatsoever with his situation and your situation.

no, kids are continually bullied and driven mad, more or less.

Maybe that's because we're all mentally ill?

Again, you show you have absolutely no understanding of mental illnesses and would do best to stop posting or educate yourself. He's freakin 15 years-old, do you know how complicating that time is for people who are perfectly healthy?

You think I skipped right from 12 years old to 20? Yeah, I know what it's like to be a teenage kid. I know what it's like to be a teenage kid without a lot of friends. I don't mind if this kid wants to kill himself, but making someone else do it is WRONG. It's inexcusable.

What amazes me most about this situation is that so many people knew he wanted to die and did nothing. That, IMO, was stupid. It doesn't sound like this kid was too ambiguous in his cries for help. But he didn't go so far as to explicitly ask for help.

In that story, the cries for help are ignored only after the characters react to his pleas several times. If anyone reacted to any of this kid's cries for help, he would have been in therapy. Like I implied, it is no one's fault but his own that he didn't seek help. But it's unfortunate that no one noticed his apparantly obvious suicidal tendencies.

You're not looking into this deeply enough. Have you ever thought that no one really cares very much about how he feels? Society generally has a view that bullying is a normal part of life, and one should just deal with it. The victims of bullying are often accused to must've done something to deserve it. There wasn't really anything he could have done about the bullying. School administrators are mostly deadbeats to bullies, and not to mention victims of bullies are often pressured to not to report bullying to authorities, as it shows a sign of weakness, that they are not able to deal with their own problems themselves. As I said, it's not that easy where this kid can just seek help, and he'll be fine again.
Here's a good article written by a mom of a son who suicide from the his depression due to bullying. This article really explains how bullying is ignored by school administrators.

WTF. Most of you guys who post here are nerds, don't even tell me you guys didn't think it sucked when you were being picked on. This kid was only 15, barely smart enough to think rationally. They always say your environment molds you...which is why if anyone messes with my kids i'd seriously fvck them up.

It is their fault. Heck I'd say everyone who says "bullies are a part of life and the kid should just tough it out" takes SOME blame for the kid's suicide stunt. Society works as a whole. If everyone told girls that are raped that it's raping is an unfortunate nature of humans and that they should just try to enjoy it, don't you think everyone would go around raping girls? That's kind of like the situation with bullying. The general attitude towards bullying is that it's a part of high school, and kids should just "tough it out". That's why these victims of bullies feel so helpless and end up taking their own life.

It's not. But other people could have helped. Quit rolling your eyes or they'll be stuck that way.

Yes, let's use the "Pwned" term for a kid who suffered from mental illness and is now brain dead. He certainly deserves it.

Well, you can look at it this way, he's not mentally ill anymore. Of course he's not mentally anything anymore, but that's beside the point.

Well I just quoted that you said that it is no one but the kids fault.. verbatim.
So if you're going to change your view, why not just say so?

Your heart is bleading worse than that kid's head wound.
Yeah I did really pretty disturbed at a lot of the apathy that went for the kid in this thread.
Oh and thanks for ignoring all my arguments.

No. My family has not a single person that doesn't suffer from at least one mental illness. Have you had to take turns being the "Suicide Watch" for your little sister before? Had to hide away your medicine or anything that could be used as a weapon?

I've been admitted to in-house psyche wards for suicidal tendancies myself, but I'm over it now thanks to therapy and medication. What I went through in my teens is something no person should ever go through. It sickens me to think there are so many people so horribly ignorant and judgmental of those with mental illness. They'll be the first to feign sympathy for a little boy with broken legs, but will condemn to hell those with mental illnesses.

I live with somone that has (my spelling sucks) schezo-effective Bi-Polar Mania.
so ive been to the wards ive seen the mentaly ill ive been on the watch.
I love this person with all my heart. Ill tell you this the mentally ill do NOT want sympathy.
They want to be treated like everyone else which includes being held to the same standard.

Bottom Line just because your "mentally ill" doesnt give you a hall pass to do as you wish.
Like for example point guns at cops. If this kid what that disturbed his PARENTS are to blame for not knowing they got a messed up kid and gettin him some help.
Im not weepy for this kid and for shame on his parents. Kudos to the cop just because someone sais "hey the guns not real" im notta gonna be like OK everyone relax its fine.
Until you KNOW its not real you treat it like it is.

So lets say this kid makes it out of high school totally unbalanced and gets worse and kills one of your family members .... still feel sorry for him ? Not I.

I agree with what you said. But the thing is, this kid WAS NOT treated normally. He was not treated like "everyone else". That's probably the thing he wanted the most. But instead, he was treated as an "untouchable".
He didn't commit suicide because he didn't get his special treatment, he commited suicide because the way people treated him made his life a living hell.

Maybe you're reading a different article than me, but I don't see it mentioning bullying at all. Instead it mentions a jackass who pointed a pellet gun at his classmates.

While I do feel a great deal of compassion for you and your family, I can't say I feel the same way about somone who's mental illness causes them to hurt others.
This kid brought a gun to school & pointed it at people (& even a pellet gun can do serious damage), then he pointed the same gun at a police officer & got shot ... not a laughing matter IMO, but hardly a surprise.
If he had OD'ed on pills at home in his bed, or thrown himself off a bridge I'd feel very sorry for him as I'm sure others here would, but given the circumstances its difficult to work up much sympathy even though he obviously had problems.
