some rust, some iffy cars, and plenty of bad luck. i think he has some magic left and is leaving too early, again.

Him running into the back of grosjean? had the announcers talking about him being too old to race now. That mistake by him did seem really amateur.

They were also quick to point out that they just finished a stint behind the safety car and could have had cold tires and brakes which simply caused him to misjudge it. Rookie mistake? Sure. Though, 1.5 hours in that heat and I would forgive anyone for misjudging a braking on cold equipment.

Lots of drivers would have locked up the brakes in that situation, and have.

Most of the time they are fortunate enough to have room to get away with it.

Or quick enough to veer off, like Button on Vettel earlier in the race when Vettel slowed down a bit behind the saftey car as Button launched himself forward. Heart dropped when I saw that happening.

If your front tires lock, you aren't veering off, whether you are 19 or 39 years old.

The end result with Vettle winning was what I expected but with the start it was a disappointment. With Alonso and Webber getting taken out really ruined it. I think Grosjean has effectively ended his career at Lotus. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get suspended again. That said I'm not 100% it was completely his fault, Webber did look to slow down a bit more than expected. It was also nice to see Koby get a podium in his home race.

I want to see Vettle and Alonso fight for the championship but taking turns not finishing races is not how I want to see it happen.

Alonso getting taken out by Raikkonen was convenient... :whiste:

Anyway, I completely lost interest in the race after that incident.

I thought it was bullshit that they cut out Kobayashi's speech on the podium on the Speed TV coverage. I don't speak Japanese but I would have liked to have heard what he said to the crowd and their reaction.

Sucks for Alonso, good result for Massa, the championship is wide open now.

Interesting how the team that got Vettel his 2010 championship (remember Petrov in the Renault holding off Alonso in Yas Marinas?) is again doing their utmost to make a Renault engine the 2012 winner

Oh well, Seb V. still has 7 Championships to chain up, before matching Seb L.

Also, the day before I mused that it was time for Kamui to finally get onto the podium - nice to see him get the job done at last. Hope he stays with Sauber for another year, or maybe even takes over RoGro's seat at Lotus - not sure if that car is much of a step up, but the constructors championship does seem to give that indication. Not sure that Sauber would like to swap out both drivers for next season though, and Kamui should remain an affordable option.
I'd also love to see Heikki back in a car that's slightly more likely to end up in the points...

With the back end of the calender having more high down-force tracks, it's now Vettel's to lose. But as we've seen, the advantage is lost all too easily. Starting from pole does help you get out of first-corner pile-ups at least. And with his qualifying record, I'd expect him to be firmly entrenched in the front row for the rest of the season, excluding gear box shenanigans.

I am glad Kimi is back:

Kimi spins near the end of Q3, ruining the laps of those behind him.

Reporter: Kimi, what happened?

Kimi: I spun

<reporter waits for more elaboration>

Reporter: A bit a disaster for you and the others wasn't it?

Kimi: I don't care about the others.

Kimi: I don't care about the others.

That was such an awesome line. Also it was Fernando that moved into Kimi and cut his own tire down. Whatever Kimi's plans were once he got to turn 1 it was up to Fernando to leave him space as long as he was next to him and he didn't, so he paid the price. Awesome for Kobayashi to get a podium at home. I love when stuff like that happens.

Well, if Kimi were passing Alonso inside, and only had his wing in there, no one would say Kimi was "next to" Alonso. Most would say Kimi should not try to make the pass with only the front wing in there.

I don't think having your front wing near a rear tire means you are "next to" the other guy.

Hamilton was next to Grosjean when Grosjean took him out.

At any rate, in the first turn some give and take from both drivers is necessary to prevent these incidents that take drivers out before they get through the first turn.

"I had no space on the right, as I had [Jenson] Button there I think, and, on the left, I had Kimi," Alonso told Sky Sports F1, "I don't understand why Kimi didn't lift off as there was no room out there and it was only the first corner. But that is the way it is, and this time it was us [came off worst]."

Yeah, Kimi really didn't have the position to stay where he was "next" to Alonso. I think Kimi being as aggressive as he is didn't really care though. Perhaps he thought Alonso was going to brake and he'd overtake since he was on the inside of the turn in comparison to Alonso.

Kimi was outside of Alonso. The right front of Kimi's wing deflated Alonso's left rear tire.

Alonso probably didn't think anyone would still be that far outside, and Kimi probably thought Alonso would move further inside to make the turn, but Alonso was giving Button room on the inside.

I was happy when Alonso got knocked out. I still don't like that guy. I can't be a Ferrari fan anymore because of him. I spent years cheering against him and for Schumacher. Then Ferrari goes and hires their arch nemesis. I'm done with them. Now I'm hoping to hear "three time world champion Sebastian Vettel" at the end of the season.

Given Massa's performance, it may have been a good battle between Vettel and Alonso. It's a shame we didn't get to see that.

I'd say you were more a Schumacher fan than you were a Ferrari fan. I cheer for the red cars win or lose.

I also don't care for Alonso but won't hesitate to admit he's the best driver on the grid, and by a good portion. What he has been able to do with that car all season is particularly amazing. Put him in a Red Bull and it would be lights out for everyone else.

aaaaaaaaaaaand....to hell with speed/fox and their shit-tastic coverage. hopefully, nbc will hire varsha, hobbs, matchette and buxton and offer an improved version of their indy coverage. either way is an upgrade over that fucking channel.
