I don't really mind a pointy nose.

What I like less though is the even higher, slimmer rear wing, and that massively thick/stacked front wing.

I absolutely love the blue though, and hope it stays there. It gives the car the aristocratic look a Williams should have.

Won't that punch neatly through another car's side pod?

That's pretty much the point though, to avoid that the drivers head gets struck.
you can engineer the safety cell, but once the nose goes over the side pod, that's pretty much it for the driver.
Alonso's near fatal meeting with Grosjean in Spa is probably the key motivation for these modifications. That crash was very spooky.

Geneva team summit tweaks rules, keeps double points

- The Stewards may now impose a five second time penalty which can be taken before work is carried out on the car in a pit stop
- Team personnel must also wear helmets during qualifying, as well as the race
- Drivers may not stop on the slowing down lap to save fuel for sampling and subsequent analysis; this will not be considered justifiable reason for stopping
- For 2014 only, each team will be allowed six curfew ‘jokers’, previously there were two permitted. This is to allow more flexibility for working on the new engines and cars
- The weight of the car, without fuel, must not be less than 691kg at all times during the Event. The weight limit has increased by 1kg to take into account the difference in weight between the tyres in 2013 and 2014.

FIA plans further regulation tweaks for 2015

Even though the proposals are still subject to agreement of the F1 Commission, the most notable change includes the possibility for teams to take a supplier for suspension elements and brake ducts.

another increase of the minimum weight limit, up from 691kg in 2014 to 701kg the next year.

Under the guise of safety, a new regulation tweak must now make sure that steps in the nose are history by specifying a limit in the slope of the upper section of the nose. However subtle, this change will prevent teams from designing extreme monocoques at the maximum allowed height, attached with a nosecone that steeply slopes down to meet the nose height and size regulations.

Finally, and far from new is the intention to completely ban tyre heating devices as of 2015.

I just heard that Boullier might be taking over Whitmarsh's old position at McLaren. I wonder what that means for Romain Grosjean, if his manager now also manages another team...

Why ban tire heating devices...?

My guess is cost. Cost to buy and cost to transport. The biggest cost is safety by going out on cold tires.

I just can't wait. The first few races should be really interesting.

Shit! I have friends who just moved to the Austin area! I have a place to crash there!

Wonder how long it would take to ride the Ducati out there... :hmm:

i did not see that one coming!

Me neither - still wonder what will happen to the Boullier-Grosjean relationship now. Last I heard, Boullier still was Grosjean's manager. Maybe this is an opportunity for Grosjeans to grab a McLaren seat next year? (What with rumors being that Alonso is coming back to McLaren once his Ferrari tenure is over.)

No dicknose on the Ferrari. Instead it looks like a moose.

i'm not crazy about the black trim on the ferrari. i guess it has the advantage of masking critical pieces from easy observation, but not what i like in a racing livery.
