"It's fair to say Renault's request for an extension to the engine homologation deadline has stirred up a bit of a hornet's nest. It's a very controversial thing to request, for two reasons - 1) these engine rules are effectively only in F1 because Renault wanted them and threatened to quit if they were not introduced; 2) the manufacturers have already had an extra year to develop the engines, after the initial date for the introduction of hybrid turbos was pushed back from 2013. Renault want an extra two months of development before specs are frozen.
From the way it's shaping up so far it's not going to be much better, just a different team. The last one running at the end of the race isn't really competition as much as survival. Give it a year for the manufacturers to get everything sorted and 2015 could be a very very good year. I just see lots of blow ups and break downs this year.

Actually losing infiniti is pretty huge. That is Renault. Basically when they left the sport its obvious even with the sale to Cateram that they shifted to Red Bull as their primary team that their engines would be developed for and that they wanted to use that company to sell their brands. By dropping them I wonder if its a sign of them looking to shift to another team to be the face of their F1 efforts (maybe a move to Williams?) or is it just them winding down to be just an engine supplier creating a stock engine for teams cosworth style.well, the red bull ran for more laps than before, but they are losing Infiniti as their title sponsor in 2015 (shrug for me)
