Alright folks, make a list, check it twice, this is what you're playing (or at least launching) in 2024:

Fallout 4 (FPRPG)(Completed)
Lost Ember (Walking Sim)(Completed)
The Pedestrian (2D Puzzler)(Completed)
Alan Wake American Nightmare (TPS)(Completed)
Figment (Indie Puzzler)(Completed)
Halo: Combat Evolved (FPS)(Completed)
Halo 2 (FPS)(Completed)
Halo 3 (FPS)(Completed)
Shadow of War (ARPG)(Completed)
Dragon Age: Inquisition (RPG)(Replay)
Dragon Age 2 (RPG)(Replay)
Dead Space 2 (TPS)(Completed)

Alien Vs Predator (FPS)(Currently Playing)
Horizon Zero Dawn (Brawler)(Currently Playing)
The Banner Saga 3 (TBS)(Currently Playing)

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen (ARPG)(Paused)
This War of Mine (2d Survival)(Paused)

Red Alert 3 (RTS)
Company of Heros (RTS)
Darksiders 3 (Brawler)
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Shock-Like)
Greedfall (RPG)
Mad Max (Brawler)
Rise of the Tomb Raider (TPS)
Spiritfairer (???)
The Witness (Puzzle)
XCom Chimera Squad (TBS)

This is my "must try" list for 2024. Will I play other games? Yes. Will I complete all the games on this list? No.

But it's a start.

We own nothing now, best to enjoy the things that we rent then...

I really want to play Skyrim with lots of mods installed which will take a very long time to play and finish but I also want to build a new PC which will make me not want to turn this current old PC. Then there are other games I want to play on a new PC, Cyberpunk 2077 with expansion and Stalker 2 if it comes out this year and Vampires Masquerade 2.
There is also a real life which makes hard to find time to play games.

A dilemma.

Probably what I expect to play this year:

Super Mario Wonder (currently playing)
Persona 3 Reload (will 100% play at launch on Feb 2nd since it's on Game Pass)
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth (when it drops to $30 to $35 either on Steam or PS5, as the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series seems to get price cuts fast)
Rise of the Ronin (if it reviews well)
Baldur's Gate 3
Spiderman Miles Morales
Hellblade 2 (if it reviews well)

Might finish up Dead Space Remake if I have some time left on my month of Game Pass after beating Persona 3 Reload.

Oh and Elden Ring if the DLC comes out this year. That'll be a Day 1 buy.

Cyberpunk 2077

Just finished act 1 after 20hrs. The game is nuts in a good way, there is so much quality story wise. Cant wait to get into the meat of the game now.

-Yeah, I've gathered the game is great if you try and play it as a more linear narrative experience and less like a GTA clone. Granted I haven't actually played the game yet.

CDPR's storytelling ability is nearly unparalleled in the industry right now, just have to play the game to their strengths to get the most out of it.

The city is by far the best designed in any video game ever, the detail, verticality, and traversable areas is insane.

Don't play it like GTA, actually walk around and use your vehicle sparingly. Enjoy the city.

It really is a shame it had such a bad launch. They basically tried to reach Rockstar level polish with a fraction of the budget and time, if they let the game cook for another 2 years, or released now with the expansion it would be in many peoples GOAT conversation.

well last years i played Skyim with *lots* of mods and it was a pleasant experience, but you gotta watch out for unbalanced game breaking stuff like potions that sell for 3000 gold or thar let you 1-shot anything on Legendary.
im waiting to upgrade my gpu in april to play modern warfare, but generally speaking im unhappy about not having a single skill-based FPS with strong community tools to play. ir's like nobody knows how to design games anymore.
i still play Angband 4.1.3 about 30-40h a week.

Still playing Elden Ring (with a Randomizer mod). And still waiting for the DLC. I'm also playing some Warhammer Darktide (bought it about 2 months ago, so it's still pretty recent for me). And I plan on actually finishing Witcher 3 at some point this year (played it a solid 50 hours before, but mostly explored; then things happened and my first playthrough was lost, hard-drive related stuff... then started a 2nd playthrough, procrastinated that one and eventually forgot to backup my saves before moving from Windows 10 to 11 and lost that one too... so yeah I have to restart over for a third time). I've also been re-playing Monster Hunter World (Iceborne), love it; I just do a bunch of hunts with random people. Beyond that, I keep having my daily dose of Heroes of the Storm and my weekly dose of Shredder's Revenge. I've also delved 'back into' Shoot 'em Ups recently (mostly on Steam), but they're just games I play in very short bursts for now.

It's relatively simple. The two games I do play the most remain Elden Ring and - for now - Monster Hunter World. When it comes to actual new games there's been very little for me (none of the "big" titles).

Ok, wrapped up Fallout 4 and all of the DLCs except Nuka World, which I'll save for another playthrough at some point.

After a big fat open world game I tend to want to play something calm, linear, and short. Both The Pedestrian and Lost Ember are scratching that itch.

The Pedestrian is fantastic, kind of whimsical puzzle game. Really enjoying it but the lack of any kind of narrative keeps my play sessions to about 30 minutes at a time.

Lost Ember is nothing but narrative, pretty calm dressed up walking sim. Kids are really into watching me play and the story so I'll be playing this as well.

I don't even want to look at my backlog of games; too many to choose from. The only games I don't own that I consider must buy are the Phantom Liberty expansion and Stray. I wish Stray would come to GOG.

- I'd be skeptical of following up F4 with Witcher 3, two big open world games back to back would invite too much comparison, but Witcher 3 is honestly one of the best action RPGs I've ever played bar none (assuming you like the character of Geralt, which given you've played W1/2 you likely at least don't have an issue with the deadpan style).

Completed Lost Ember. Definitely kinda janky, but otherwise a calm, story driven walking sim with strong art direction. Took about 5 hours to beat, would strongly recommend for $5 as a palet cleanser type game between bigger experiences.

Yeah, I'm not playing anything for a little while. FO4 kind of exhausted me.

I prefer narrative driven RPGs to open worlds. I like definitive endings. FO4 doesn't give that closure. You just decide to stop playing.

I think a Witcher 2 replay is what really appeals. I remember really liking it, and it's not open world. It's been MANY years and my old computer had a rough time with it. It would be nice to crank everything to max and try it again. I also have the BioShock's which I never got around to playing, and about 100 other games in my GoG account I haven't touched, though a lot were just because they were so cheap and one day I might play them...

Yeah I played it a few years ago and not only is it a great game but it still looks incredible and runs like butter on anything modern.

Fired up Alan Wake American Nightmare.

I really enjoyed AW and I'm really enjoying AWAN. Remedy cleaned up some of the combat so it's less scarcity based and more combat forward and the game really benefits as a result.

The world is more of a small open world with objectives than a straight linear experience and the game benefits from that change as well.
